An idea popped in my head for KTWV

How similar is the Los Angeles market to Miami? Because KTWV could shift it's format to one closer to this:

http://www.easy93.com/

That station brings in decent revenue, and is ahead of the heritage AC and Hot AC in the PPMs. I believe a station like this could work in LA.

KTWV already is a borderline clone of the KOST of yesteryear (with the soft hits and the DJs), so it would not be that huge a shift.

Anybody agree??

The Wave is toast....it will be Sports featuring the new CBS Sports Network. Of course this is only a guess...I know nothing.

I'm not sure if CBS Sports will go on 94.7. LA already has a few sports-talk stations (710 ESPN, 830 KLAA, FOX Sports 570) Then again, with "Dave" being evicted from Atlanta FM in favor of sports talk, and all three sports stations in LA being on AM, it does seem like an option.

If 94.7 DOES go to a spoken-word format, I would just chuck KNX on there.

I think KTWV is still there to protect the other CBS properties from getting mauled in the ratings by KOST, and to be a refugee for the old KOST Djs that got "Cleared" out.

Would hate to see that happen. We are already inundated with sports-talk radio here in LA, be they AM or FM, it's a full slate.

Listened to one of the former KOST deejays today on the Wave and I thought the sound of the talent was much better than what was on his old station.

WLYF, the heritage traditional AC, is ahead of WFEZ in the sales demos; while 'FEZ has moved toward a younger demo in recent months, they are still a very old leaning station. In other words, the same problem that KTWV has had.

The two cities are about as similar as Alexandria, Egypt, and Nice, France. Except that both are on the ocean, there is just about nothing similar.

As long at The Wave continues to have good billing, it will exist. Once that dries up, "KNX 94.7 Newsradio."

Couldn't agree more! CBS just put WFAN in NY on FM. This is the only market left and Jim Rome is a major part of the network and L.A. based. Look for CBS Sportsradio to be on FM.

Sports and news are also-ran formats in Los Angeles. This isn't NY, Chicago or San Francisco. Our population is not similar to any of those cities. Its far too premature in the abandonment of the AM band for CBS to move either format to 94.7. If there were a shift, tweak or anything similar at KTWV, it would be to another music intensive format.

Yes. Aside from the demographics, the KCBS example is different, as I've pointed out before. CBS had just recently bought the 106.9 frequency, and had tried 2 brief formats both of which failed to get any significant ratings. They didn't have to blow up an established, decently rated music format for the simulcast.

Same thing with the soon-to-be WFAN-FM sports-talk format in New York. CBS has just purchased that frequency from Merlin.

For what it's worth, the Bay Area's FM sports talk station is a bust so far. Nobody is listening despite the fact that 95.7 "The Game" runs Oakland Athletics play-by-play -and the A's have been hot lately. KNBR-AM still dominates that format.

The Wave is ding just what it should be doing right now. KOST was a successful, well-crafted station that got dismantled for no better reason than big ego. The Wave fills the hole for a lot of ex-KOST listeners. Remember, it's not all about ratings - it's about billing.
