An interesting dichotomy.

I was reminded twice today about the spanking Michael Powell gave to CBS:

September 22, 2004…CBS-owned stations were fined a total of $550,000 by the Federal Communications Commission for showing Janet Jackson's exposed right breast during the Super Bowl halftime show.

And I also heard an 'underwriting announcement' from PBS about Government err. General Motors new Chevy Volt that differentiated itself from the other commercial offerings in the 'hybrid' field touting the Generator that will let it go further (I'm guessing as compared to other hybrids).

Anywho, this is clearly a violation of underwriting rules and worthy of substantial "Notice$ of Apparent Liabilitie$".

Does anyone remember the 'Tasty Freeze" ruling that slapped a NEC station simply because the copy said that Tasty Freeze put sprinkles on their cones....

I say; squeeze PBS to the Maximum.

The commission is very lax about enforcing underwriting rules. Over the last fifteen years, I bet the EB has issued 30 or fewer NOLAs for violations of these rules.
