It was actually cool to finally read an article about Jacksonville radio that's not the usual corporate press release that justifies a decision with no opportunity of challenge. Heather Lovejoy is the writer and I believe her opening sentences echo the sentiments of many who grow increasing frustrated that a computer and a suit determine our musical taste. You get it and while I don't advocate radio articles turn into a hate fest, I believe they need to focus more on the listener and not always the corporate goals in the business section. Average people are not interested in the business of radio but rather its entertainment value.
I always thought Sunday nights represented the best opporunity for radio to break format and offer listeners something different. I've enjoyed Reggae over the years as an alternative sound appropriate at certain times. It's great to now know our market offers this. I've always believed giving local talent a chance to shine is a heathy thing for the business and for the community.
Big companies frequently get bashed but it was good to see Clear Channel was mentioned twice with WJCT (93.3 The Beat) and WPLA (Planet Radio). Good going. This weekend, I don't believe I ever heard as much Sirius XM in my travels to various business as I ever heard. I continue to wonder if those running things hear what I experience and all the diminished potential and mass ushering of the public from one medium to the other..
