An Observation

The dance club I "work" at in Wolcott, Connecticut always has The Yankees Games from The YES Network on at least one of the TV's in the bar area. I'm just so surprised to see so many commercials for WFAN*, 1010 WINS, WCBS News Radio 880, and 1050 AM ESPN New York**.

*The logo on the screen shows it as Sports Radio 660 WFAN. Really? They don't call it AM 66 any more? Wow. The commercial show's pictures and times for all their hosts 6AM-6PM and then logos for the Mets and Giants.

Amongst other things the ad for 1050 AM ESPN New York show Michael Kay 3PM-7PM and mentions every post-season baseball game will be on the station.

** Surprisingly to me it just shows the logo as 1050 AM ESPN New York. In my opinion it should say also heard on AM 1040 in Flemington, New Jersey and on 107.1 FM in Hampton Bay, Long Island.

Some ESPN hosts have started to simply refer to the station as "ESPN New York," without the frequency. This has been covered on this board in the past...

Depending on where you are in CT, it could be a real battleground between NY and Boston fans. It may be true that most stores and press in towns southwest of Hartford focus on the NY teams. Due west from Wolcott is Dutchess County, so I don't know how clear the NY signals would come in, especially 1050.

Why is it surprising? YES is a NY-based cable network so you are probably seeing commercial spots that were not sold to local advertisers in CT. I see the same thing in NJ...sometimes it's the YES ads and sometimes it's more localized ads, like a local NJ car dealership.

I realize that, but I just meant to me it's a little unusual to see 4 different stations advertised on TV.

They do still identify themselves as Sports Radio 66. You should be able to pick them up easily in central Connecticut. I've had no problem with the signal us as far as Windsor Locks at times. Not to mention, 880, 1010 and 1050 all come in clearly in a fairly large part of CT.
