5:10 am CDT, while playing around the dial, in Houston, I found a station at 1630 that I am unfamiliar with and because of the apparent format, really has me puzzled as to where it's coming from. The station is rather weak, and is battling a Spanish music format, but at just before 5 am I came across the English station playing "Cemetary Gates" by Pantera, followed by a harder rock song that I am unfamiliar with. At this point, I figured I had simply run across a Mexican based station along the lines of W Radio, which does play English pop and rock hits on Saturday nights. What came next is what threw me for the loop. A weather forecast "From the Fox 28 weather center" reporting a chance of light snow today with a high of 27. It continued on with the forecast for next week, at which point the Spanish music took over and apparently for good this morning.
Obviously from the North somewhere, considering the forecast of snow showers, but where? A quick search of 1630s gives me really no help. Within 1,000 miles of here, radio-locator offers a Spanish station from Wyoming, News/Talk WRDW out of Augusta, GA., Gospel KKGM-Fort Worth, a Mexican station, and a "Mighty 1630" KCJJ from Iowa City, IA. Looking over Mighty's website makes me think this may be what I ran across, but I am not sure. If it is KCJJ, that is one hell of a catch for a 1kW night time operation at just under 850 miles away.
