I'm in a rush, so I'm going to keep this short and sweet. At about 9:00 this evening, I was asked by my PD to call Oldies 107-3 to ask if they had a song that they could e-mail us. So, assuming the only person there was the night jock, I called the request line. I got a busy signal. I kept redialing the number for over five minutes, with the same result. So, I began calling the request lines of each of the MainLine stations, when all I hear is a busy signal.
So, I turn to the Cox cluster, trying to see if a request line was open to call to see if the anybody was in the MainLine cluster (assuming they know if ML is open this late). Alas, I get NOTHING but a busy tone on the request lines.
Then comes the R1 cluster, with the same result, then to top it off was the CC cluster. Finally, I got ahold of the night jock at Q-94 who was quite nice (shoutout to you if you ever read this)
Based on my knowledge that WRVQ is the primary EAS site, I know that they have to have a 24-hour on-air staff. However, unless Richmond radio has all of its request lines tied up at 9 pm, or all the night jocks take their universal lunch/smoke/crap break at 9 pm, there are NO live night jocks in Richmond (with the exception of Q-94)
I find this funny that you all are that worried about costs that you can't pay some jerk $8-10 an hour to run your control board and actually have a live jock at night. I also find it funny that a station that services 1/10 th the average listenership of WTVR or WKHK has a live night DJ. Stations in Charlottesville and Roanoke have live DJ's at night...and they're half the market size of Richmond!
All in all, I'd like to congratulate you fine folks in market #58 for only having one live jock on the air.
Much love,
Radio-X
