An open letter to folk radio program hosts

To my fellow folk prgram hosts:

Artists and radio promoters alike appreciate it when a DJ “reports” to the Folk DJ list. It helps the artists know what stations they are receiving play from which can be helpful for touring, for letting their fans know, and in helping the artist to get the recognition on the Folk DJ chart, for what they are achieving. Other DJ’s are interested in hearing what you’re playing and look at the list gleaning suggestions of what they might listen to for their own programming. And the artists gain visibility as they chart – and get a sense of how much reaction their CD is getting or not.

WCUW uses Spinitron to compile playlists. Once a program is in Spinitron, it takes me all of 60 seconds to send to my personal email address, copy and paste into the Folk DJ input page.

I hope you’ll be able to take the time to join this wonderful community of DJ’s and stations who play independent roots artists. It’s wonderful to be united by the list serve and what you do is read by over 800 subscribers. You’ll enlarge your audience for what you do and get to be known by a much wider circle of acoustic music fans for all your hard work on your show.
