An Open Letter to WPFB

If you're going to carry Imus in the Morning, then please for the love of God, CARRY it.

Sorry folks, but Dayton doesn't have a board, so I'm posting this here.

Since Imus is on vacation this week, he's not on TV. Ergo, I am not taping him. <Holy crap, did I just use the word ergo in a sentence???? I promise to slap myself if I ever do THAT again....but I digress> Instead, I'm listening to him on the radio at work. Good Lord, they are almost always late coming back to the show from a stopset. The only exception is the second set of the hour when they come back early.

I would bet my left eyeball that the show has a format clock for affiliates to work with. I would bet my RIGHT eyeball that since the show is in Best Of mode, there are no incidents of Imus being late to the breaks. Therefore, follow the freakin clock!!!!

What's really frustrating is that it's not even happening due to too many spots. It's useless crap like Ohio Outdoor Notebook, or the adopt-a-dog show.

Jack,

Having been a news director on a coffeepot AM that carried Imus, I can tell you that his show is no picnic. Lighten up a bit on the guys at 'PFB. Imus takes breaks when he wants, he often crams all the stopsets up against eachother at the end of the hour and they take breaks with little, if any warning. The only warning the board op gets is that "IMUS!" shout. And his show isn't toned. Every affiliate has to carry it live. So with the mad rush of stations going to computer automation and many opting for shows that they can just pipe in, tone it up, get the news guys to record a perfect 3 or 4 minute 'cast and let 'er rip, just be thankful the ownership at 'PFB even still has it.

Oh yeah I know it's a chore to try to carry it. That's why I tried to leave some of my more profane thoughts out of the post. ;-) It's also why I could understand it if Imus were live and bein a pain in the assci. However, that wasnt the case this past week. The show is in best of mode right now....all on tape. The breaks are going to be the same length each time, and yet it's still all messed up. THAT'S what is frustrating.

I know what ya mean about the show not being toned, too. If I remember correctly, a lot of those syndicated "hot talk" type shows are the same way. It's GOT to be incredibly frustrating. I try to be sympathetic, but.....dang it...if you can't do it right, don't do it. Ya know?
