An Unfortunate Coincidence

Tonight's 2nd (8:30) episode of The Simpsons featured Marge and Moe's business trip to Aruba.

Won't garner as much attention as The Simpson's WTC episode, but given the timing and how out of all of last years episodes, they chose this one...I find it odd.

The schedule for the whole summer was probably made out several months ago. The episodes aren't being shown in order (last week's were #349 and #342, and this week's were #347 and #344) so that's not it.

I'm sure it was planned well in advance of current happenings in Aruba. Local affiliates could probably have easily substituted another episode or some other program if they felt the need to do that.

Personally, while I feel very bad for Natalee Hollaway and her family, it still wouldn't stop me from watching a cartoon where the cartoon characters happened to be going on a cartoon business trip to a cartoon Aruba.

As the saying goes, if you dont like it, dont watch it, change the channel.

Yeah it is unfortunate (am watching the Natalee Holloway coverage on Fox News Channel - The Big Story - as we speak). But despite what happened to her, Aruba is still one of the safest islands in the Caribbean. And for the people, I hope their economy doesn't suffer if tourists are wary about going there.

I didn't even make the connection till you pointed it out. Though it was shown on the news, it's really a local story blown out of proportion, like Scott Peterson or that North Dakota girl that was missing for awhile.

The entire schedule is laid out months in advance, but the powers that be can change it when they so choose. For example, when the Pope died, Fox decided to pull the Catholic episode until later in the season (finale I beleive from its original air date in early April).

And I'm not biznitching about it one way or the other about them airing it...just pointing it out.

Exactly, I don't think a network programmer in New York would have caught any connection here, unlike w/ 9/11, the Pope's death, or the guy from "The Killing Fields" being murdered. (I believe there is a fourth episode that was pulled/rescheduled/edited due to something similar, but I can't recall which one it was).

Two of those were stories of immense magnitude and the offending scene in the third was cut because the reference implied Homer beat him up and stole his Oscar.

A simple coincidence of a cameo location doesn't meet the standard.

Actually, it was edited and replaced with another actor's name.
