An Update On Michael Bernz and WBMW 106.5

I've since gotten an email from Michael Bernz. He has given me permission to share with you all what's going on...

"Truth be told, WBMW did not renew my contract on 7/28 so I am now one of the many unemployed
radio "legends" out there. Ratings were good but the PD wanted to make a
change anyway. They tell me he just doesn't like me.
As far as I know, Glen is filling in until they decide what to do with the
morning show."
He continues on to say, "I just wanted to set the record
straight. I did not leave to "pursue other interests", or because of health
problems or anything other than a political move to get me out
.

In a second email to me, he says... "I don't mind you sharing the message or whatever. I've been trying to
let people know that I' not in a hospital or institution of any kind. Just
the victim of a political decision. My biggest disappointment is that I
went to work with John back in 1999 to improve the station from it's former
cellar dwelling home and I have indeed been able to do that plus more than
triple the station's billing, so I feel like it's my "baby". There was no
negative comment served to me at the meeting, in fact John praised my every
deed, such as being there in the middle of a blizzard or hurricane and so
on. I assume it was a cost cutting measure. He just didn't want to pay the
freight any more.

There, you heard it from the horse's mouth. I know
other parts of the horse's anatomy have been spinning a variety of stories
but now you know the real deal. And thanks for asking!

Michael Bernz

I have edited it a few sentences in the email, but the majority of it and the point he's tried to make has been left intact.

I lived in New London, CT from 1977-78. I fondly remember Michael Bernz on WSUB AM and FM from 6PM until midnight. Back then WSUB AM and FM were the same except for some sporting events. From 6 AM until 6 PM the station was middle of the road while Michael Bernz's show was AOR. Paul, or anyone else, what other radio personalities have been active in the New London market for 30 or more years? Thanks.

Bruce
