An update to the WDDM Saga

So now I'm wondering, who exactly owns WDDM now? Apparently the plug got pulled and WVRM Inc. had second thoughts about selling... I'm lost. I thought the $500,000 transaction, reported on allaccess.com last year, was already completed..

Dear Radio Family,

I write this letter to you today with a very heavy heart.

As most of you may have realized by now, our Catholic radio station, WDDM 89.3 FM, has been silent since Thursday, January 11th. This very serious situation took us completely by surprise and unfortunately we have no control over it at this time.

Since we first began broadcasting on September 2, 2005, we have been leasing the station from the current owner. As I have shared with you so often on our radio broadcasts, it was our intention to have Domestic Church Media eventually purchase the station outright and were raising the necessary funds to do so. The final purchase was to take place this month.

On Monday, January 8th, it was brought to my attention that the owner of the station was having second thoughts about selling it to us. And on Thursday morning, January 11th, shortly after 10 AM, without any warning, the owner turned off the transmitter. The matter is now in the hands of our Attorney.

We still don’t know why this is happening, but we believe that if God has allowed it, a greater good will come from it. As we profess every day on my radio program at 3 o’clock - Jesus, I trust in You! Still it is a very trying time for everyone, we know. Cheryl and our children have been very supportive. They are a true blessing to me and have sacrificed a great deal in the years that we have given to this work. We have taken great comfort in the many phone calls and e-mails that we have received offering prayers and consolation. My heart goes out to all of our radio family who have come to count on the station.

Since this is now a legal matter, we need your prayers and support now more than ever. We are not giving up because we know that’s what the Evil One would like. This is a spiritual battle more than anything and we have committed our lives to bringing Catholic Radio to New Jersey and New York City. God is with us.

You will still be able to listen to the station online as we will continue to run the broadcasts 24 hours a day on our web site www.893fm.org. The site will be updated regularly and I will also be available by phone, so please do not hesitate to call for updates. Let’s pray for each other. Our area needs Catholic radio! God love you.

Yours in Jesus, Mary and Joseph,

Jim Manfredonia

WDDM in New York City? The southern part of Staten Island, maybe. I know I know, Staten Island is part of NYC, but that's not what most people would think of. The devil is in the details (pun intended).

Yes. If you go straight north from there over the water you hit SI. I think WNYU's splash would limit usable reception though.

Back in 2004, when WCNJ was Desi, Dhoom fm, whatever they were at that point, I was able to pick them pretty clear in lower Manhattan. We know they weren't broadcasting 9 or 10 watts.

It's almost a clear water shot to lower Manhattan. Radio signals go over water much more clearly than land. Unless you took field measurements at the transmitter, that's speculation. It may be right, but it's still speculation.

The shutting off of the transmitter by WDDM's owner has nothing to do with him having second thoughts.

It has to do with the fact the catholic folks who were leasing it owe Mr. Suri over $25,000....

Oh that's terrible. (not really)...silence on 89.3 is better than hearing Mother Theresa on an EWTN feed, with horribly low audio.
I still think it's time to raise some money and make 89.3 local again.

I later heard that the catholic programmers owe Mr. Suri (WDDM's owner) could be double the original figure I posted above or even more....

I'm still confused as to the LMA, since allaccess.com reported last year that Domestic Church Media had purchased WDDM for $500,000 yet recently Domestic indicated in their letter, they had intended to buy the station. It's funny how they won't mention or admit, if at all true, that they owe their current owners a good amount of money. Even God can't perform this miracle apparently. Domestic states that their attorney is working with this matter, I can only wonder what the outcome's going to be.

I think that either the purchase wasn't closed on yet or it had, but they were failing to make payments.

I think they're gone for good...(HE has heard my prayers..lol)

URGENT!! URGENT!! URGENT!!

The Presentation of Our Lord

Dear Radio Family,

I can't tell you how much we miss being with you. This radio apostolate has become our life's work. We want to thank all of you who have taken the time to write, e-mail and call. We know that your prayers are sustaining us during this very difficult time. And although the station is now silent, we firmly believe that Almighty God has allowed it for a reason - to bring about a great good. So we ask you to please be patient, pray and offer up your disappointments for this cause.

Our mission is Catholic Radio and we will continue to do whatever we can to see to it that there is a strong, vibrant voice on our area's radio airwaves. Remember that Our Lord went out into the desert to fast and pray before He began His public ministry. Perhaps this is our time in the desert. We must fast and pray to see to it that the voice of Truth that is Catholic radio is not silent for long.

I will do my best to keep you posted on this page. This is now a legal matter in the hands of our Attorney.

And don't forget that we are still broadcasting online 24/7. Always feel free to call, e-mail or write. We need your prayers and support now more than ever. God love you!

Jim
