Analog TV stations still on channel 6

nd2023

Now that TV is digital and WPVI 6 is no longer transmitting an analog audio signal on 87.7, I am now listening to Pulse 87.7 a lot more because there's no interference. I have noticed some places where I hear a 15.625 kHz whine interfering with WNYZ 87.7. I thought it might be e-skip to Canada or Mexico, but the DX board doesn't have any reports of e-skip. Are there any analog channel 6's left besides ones that use 87.7 as an FM station like WNYZ? Or could it just be cable leakage?

KVIE Channel 6, A Sacramento, California PBS TV Station is still on the air albeit as a NIGHTLIGHT STATION with a continuous informational loop abot DTV. I have heard that this will continue for up to 30 days after the June 12 Analog signoff. And yes, I can still hear this on 87.7.

Here in Los Angeles, there is KSFV-CA, which masquerades as an FM station, hence the branding "Guadalupe Radio," which, as you might have guessed by the name, is a Spanish-language religious station.

I think XETV 6 Tijuana/San Diego is still on the air in analog. Of course it probably won't cause in interference all the way in NY, but just for the record, they are still on.

CHEK-TV 6 Victoria, BC is still going. And will be until August 2011 because Canada will still have analog TV until then.

That's the interesting side effect of the digital conversion. If you live along the US/Canadian border, you don't have to be in any real hurry to upgrade. Most Canadian stations (at least the ones in Vancouver) carry most of the same US network prime-time TV shows. But that's OK really. Some of the Canadian sitcoms (like Corner Gas) are really GOOD!.....

WPVI-TV 6 in Philadelphia is staying on VHF channel 6 and is now transmitting in digital on VHF channel 6. They opted to continue to broadcast on channel 6, and are dropping their temporary FCC UHF digital assignment. The FCC has approved this assignment of digital VHF channel 6.

If you wish to verify this you may contact WPVI 6 directly, or the FCC.

Digital:
6abc is now on the VHF band, a position assigned by the government. Before the conversion, it was on the UHF band

Here in Wisconsin we still have WITI 6 from Milwaukee in nighlight mode, broadcasting the melodius tones of Mike DiSerio (aka the guy in the NAB video) for the next two weeks on 87.7, along with whoever the Spanish person is.

Isn't XETV exempt from the analog deadline since they're based in Mexico and not the U.S.?

Wikipedia's list of channel 6 radio stations lists 9 such stations. What's very interesting to me is how many major markets have such a station, including NY, Chi, LA, and DC.

Does anyone know of any others not on Wiki's list?

Yes, they are exempt because they are licensed to Tijuana. Mexico is going to transition to digital in 2016. They considered cutting off their analog signal along with the other San Diego stations, but are still broadcasting on analog for their Mexican viewers.

WSYX in Columbus Ohio is broadcasting in Night Light Mode on VHF6. So if you are in the Columbus Ohio Metro area tune to 87.7-87.9 FM to listen on how to connect your DTV converter box. Until June 26th.

At one point, Mega Media was planning to lease all of the channel 6's in DC, Chicago, and LA and turn them into Pulse 87's.

There are quite a few stations in Canada still transmitting in analog on Channel 6 in addition to CHEK, most notably:

CIII-TV Paris, Ontario (Global)
CIII-TV-6 Ottawa, Ontario (Global)
CJOH-TV-6 Deseronto, Ontario (CTV) - although this is on the list of transmitters CTV wants to shut down
CICA-TV-6 North Bay, Ontario (TVO)
CBLT-7 Timmins, Ontario (CBC)
CBMT Montreal, Quebec (CBC)
CJPM-TV Chicoutimi, Quebec (TVA)
CBWT Winnipeg, Manitoba (CBC)
CHCA-TV Red Deer, Alberta
CFWH-TV Whitehorse, Yukon Territory (CBC) - probably only relevant to our Alaskan DXers

Would it be possible that I had received either Ottawa or Montreal yesterday? I had only gotten an FM station from Ottawa once before in NJ.

It's possible, I'm in Maine and receive a french tv station on ch 6, and there's 2 french stations in Quebec on Ch 6. (one TVA, one CBC)

There was E-Skip from the south Florida area last evening here into upstate NY around sunset. Both Ch. 2 and Ch. 6 from the Miami area running the same nightlight loop. Also another Spanish language station's audio occasionally popping in under Miami's Ch. 2. Nothing here e-skip wise on channels 3, 4 or 5 though.

WJAC-TV in Johnstown, PA will be in nightlight mode for a couple of weeks.

Mike DeSerio is now the biggest star in television! No doubt to be the answer to scores of future trivia questions. Maybe he'll land a reality show gig after this?

I heard a moonlighting channel 6 audio interfere with Pulse 87.7 this evening around 9:10. My car was parked so it couldn't be cable leakage. I wonder if there was a small e-skip opening tonight.
