Anchor Changes at KPRC/Local 2

New KPRC GM has made some sweeping anchor changes:

Weekdays, 5-7AM--

Out: Khambrel Marshall and Sara Allen
In: Owen Conflenti and Rachel McNeill

Weekdays, 11AM-12Noon--

Out: Sara Allen
In: Linda Lorelle and Rachel McNeill

Weekdays, 4-5PM--

Out: Khambrel Marshall
In: Owen Conflenti and Linda Lorelle

Weekdays: 5PM, 6PM, 10PM--

Bill Balleza and Dominique Sachse anchor all three newscasts; Linda Lorelle demoted to earlier newscasts

Weekend mornings--

Out: Lisa Baldwin
In: Courtney Zavala

Weekend evenings--

Out: Rachel McNeill (promoted to weekday newscasts)
In: Sara Allen (demoted to weekends)

Comments: Weekday morning newscasts are in shambles. Rumor is weekday morning weatherman Wes Hohenstein is on his way out too. I am not surprised that someone finally woke up at Local 2 and replaced Khambrel Marshall. Even though he has been at KPRC since 1999 and bounced from newscasts to newscasts, he was never the savior for the station's sagging news ratings. Word has it Linda Lorelle is not happy with her demotion. Nice to see Rachel McNeill promoted from weekends to weekdays. Sara Allen will probably continue on weekends until her contract runs out.

Rumor floating around is that they are going to move the morning start time to 4:30, or even 4am. Seems 2 is looking for the "most hours of local news" crown--hence the expanded midday show.

When did Consumer Reporter - Emily Akin leave? What happened there?

All of their ratings are in shambles. I've said this before and I'll say it again, and this is not directed at anyone on this board, but KPRC management... it is not the talent, but the presentation that sucks. Call it what you want... dull, boring, but KTRK & KHOU get better ratings because of the content and presentation of the news. Not to mention, instead of the revolving door of talent that KPRC has had (besides Bill, Linda, Dominique, & Frank), the other two have had stability where the talent is concerned. They need to ditch the in-your-face, flash-n-flare presentation, and just do a normal newscast like they did when Ron Stone was there and KPRC was number one.

Also, starting news earlier than 5am, is ridiculous. If you look at the numbers for a 5am newscast, they're extremely low. There is just no need to do that. <P ID="signature">______________

I noticed that Khambrel Marshall is now on weekends...he was on this morning with Courtney Zavala and tonight's evening newscasts with Sara Allen. Quite a demotion for him...from one of the station's top weekday anchors...now sent to weekend duty.

Also, Radar the dog is nowhere to be found.

The new GM, who comes from KSAT in San Antonio, is really shaking things up. Some of the changes are good, others are crap. I like the expanded midday news. The half-hour infomercial after the noon news was a joke. The morning newscast is in big trouble ... it has fallen from second to third or even fourth most days. (My theory: People miss Chuck George.) The new anchors are more lively, but the content stinks ... the exact same half-hour newscast reracked four times. No anchor interaction. No business news. No entertainment news. Just shooting after shooting after shooting. Wes Hohenstein has been rumored to be on his way out for months. Hope that's not the case ... he's really been on his game lately. An early start time might help some, but as another poster mentioned, the ratings are scarce at 5 a.m. ... let alone 4:30 a.m. A few stations start news this early, such as KPHO in Phoenix. Radar has been greatly minimized, but is still featured in the "Dog-Walking Forecast" at the end of the 10 p.m. news. Khambrel deserved better. Same with Lisa Baldwin, who has now been demoted a second time. (She started on weekend evenings, was bumped to weekend mornings and now is a full-time street reporter.) Sara Allen isn't that great. Is she reporting during the week or strictly anchoring weekend evenings? Emily Akin left on her own after Akin's Army was dissolved. She was offered a street reporter position and balked. They're also without a health reporter at KPRC after axing Krista Marino shortly after she returned from maternity leave. Management needs to stick by the decisions it has made. Viewers are getting sick of all the changes. 13 has stability ... and ratings. Same at 11.
