Anchor changes at News 2

I'm not sure what to think of the anchor changes announced Friday afternoon for News 2... On one hand, I hate to see Bob and Ann, easily the station's best two and best-known anchors relegated to the "off-prime" newscasts. At the same time, it's good to see Neil get the chance at prime time, and for Dwyer to move to an anchor role if that's what he wants -- hard to imagine him completely out of sports. I also thought the husband-and-wife pairing of Neil and Heather made the morning program much more interesting, and now that's gone.I've seen these new slots set up this way for fill-ins recently -- I guess they turned out to really be tryouts. My reaction overall... don't think this will increase ratings. In fact the jumbling of what's become comfortable is very much more likely to confuse the News 2 faithful, and send them elsewhere. We could see a dip rather than an increase. I think the lower ratings for News 2 is more because of viewing habit history than anything else. There won't be an even playing field for local TV news in this market until Chris, Dan, and Demetria retire.Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I think that letting Victoria Hansen go is a mistake. I hope someone local picks her up soon. I don't believe that this will make a whole lot of difference in the ratings. I don't think WKRN is doing anything that badly (except I don't care a lot for the VJ thing), it's just that 5 and 4 have been the class of the market for so many years. And I agree that Chris, Dan, and Demetria have a lot to do with those ratings. I think if WKRN tries too hard to change, they'll lose their chance to capitalize in the changing faces we'll see across the board. But I really don't know what I'm talking about, so I'm probably dead wrong.

This just seems to be business as usual at WKRN...the "revolving anchor"syndrome. It's just my opinion...but the constant amchor changes is one ofthe main reasons they're perceived as 'second class' by viewers. They're justseen as the "wanna-be 4" or "wanna-be 5" station. The talent level at 2 has longbeen on par with the other guys (except for the VJ fiasco...which brings them to thelevel of interns at WBKO). I am glad to see them giving Allison Hatcher a chance, though. She has improved dramatically...and has real personality on-air withoutbeing goofy. Sorry I had to to get technical. As for WKRN...I suggest a new slogan:"we have news, 2"

CR -- This will go down as the biggest TV fiasco in 25 years in Nashville. It would be like putting Gerry Houseon from 12MID-6A. Not to slight Allison or Neil (both very good.) But, hasn't Channel Two built stability onBob and Anne? The older viewers will not watch as much and younger viewers aren't watching as much local news. This is exactly what is wrong with the Radio/TV industry today. No depth or substance, just thin short-termknee-jerk decision making on a whim. They should at least be gearing up for Chris Clark's retirement. Ah!!! If Channel 5 had Bob or Anne...what wouldthat do for their ratings? I cannot, and do not, watch Dan or Demetria...she just rubs me wrong. Bob and Anne seems like really nicehard-working honest people who have never been allowed to promote themselves. Six months...it'll all be swapped around again. This time, they may not be able to get the numbers (or viewers)back.

seems we all agree on this one. everyone except those making the decesion to make the change. Bob and Anne have brought stability to what at one time was a revolving door of anchors. Nothing against Neil or Allison they are both professional and darn goodbut change just for change sake is stupid. First they let Vic go, big mistake, now this.If Channel 2 wants to improve their product they should ditch the vj concept, that really blows. And whats up with Dwyer is it not enough to be Sports Director and Lotto man and until recently sports radio host but now he wants to be morning anchor.maybe 2 should get rid of Bob, Anne, Neil, Allison. Lisa and Heather, and let Dwyer do it all.

And why split up Neil and Heather Orne? Trouble in paradise? Though I understand she is difficult to say the least. Imagine having to work AND live with her.

where did you hear that Heather is difficult?and how does Heather & Neil's personal life have anything to do with the on-air lineup?was this in 'The Enquirer'?

I am not sure why it is relevant where that information comes from. But the point is, what reason could there be for separating a husband /wife team?

Romedog is right. Personal life is personal and should be respected.

As a woman I am so tired of hearing people say a woman is "difficult" if she is hard working, assertive and demanding. If a man does the same,he is "brilliant" and a "go getter". Heather does a superb job in the morning and she has so much going for her. And I agree that their marriage should be private. What happens behind closed doors, should stay there. These two have done a remarkable job in the morning. I could not imagine having to work with my man and then going home with him. That would be the pits. I don't like the changes that have happened at Channel 2,especially with Bob and Anne. But then change is ineviditable.

I've done some work with Channel 2 in the past and want to say that Heather and Neil are both very nice people. They went out of their way to make me feel welcome and I really appreciated that. I enjoyed the opportunity to work with them.

I stand corrected. No offense intended. I actually enjoy them on air as a couple and simply wondered why they were being separated PROFESSIONALLY speaking.

Trouble in paradise? Though I understand she is difficult to say the least. Imagine having to work AND live with her.that doesn't sound like professionally-speaking to me

My guess is that they are being separated professionally because the management wants Neil to anchor the evening news. When they worked in different places, they worked different hours--the only difference now is that they'll work different hours for the same company. When a husband and wife work together, most corporations I've dealt with treat each of them individually. In other words, in the eyes of management, they're not married at the office.
