Anchorless TV News

searadiofreak said:
Lou Dobbs anchored the weekend news on NBC's KING-TV in Seattle in the late 70's and early 80's before moving to CNN. He certainly was no Ron Burgendy. Quite the opposite, he was quite serious. But then again, that was the KING-TV matra in those days.

It still is, compared to most cities! KING has had its moments of silliness over the years, but has generally been very serious. Remember, during the 80's, when they tried to rebrand it to "Newscenter 5" and half the reporters were still saying "KING 5 News". Then, after a few months, they realized their mistake and redid the intro to say "Live from Newscenter 5, this is KING 5 News!". Then, there was the disappearing weekend anchor Hattie Kaufman, who simply disappeared for a few weeks and didn't tell anyone where she was.

TV News will eventually turn into the "Channel One News" they force fed on us in high school...at least Channel One gave us Lisa Ling and AC360!
You forgot Extra co-host Maria Menounos (former Entertainment Tonight and NBC News Today reporter). Also Gotham Chopra and Janet Choi (also a former Real World cast member), who are now with Current TV. And Tracy Smith and Seth Doane, now with CBS News. And Kathy Kronenberger, who would go on to report for WJW in Cleveland (not sure where she is now though, haven't seen her on TV in my hometown in years). And filmmaker Derrick Shore (8: A Mormon Proposition).

Thanks for bumping this thread, Scott... As an aside, NBC Sports Network currently does "anchorless" sports news every morning on "The 'Lights" (as in "highlights").
