"Anchorwoman" aftermath

I see that "Anchorwoman" Lauren Jones is negotiating with KYTX to stay in East Texas. And no, I'm not making this up. www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,290579,00.html

Let's take up a collection and buy Phil Hurley a clue.

Somehow, I figured her "departure" wasn't the end of the story. Even at that point, she's smarter than Hurley. Jones knows Hurley is the only one who will hire her; he thinks he's squeezed the golden goose until it croaked and now he's rid of her, or so he thinks. But the payback is a real bear. Now the fun begins.

Too late..He's Col. Mustard with the candlestick holder trying to light it,without a candle.

So let me get this straight......this Laura chick who calls herself an "anchorwoman" with absolutely NO experience in broadcast journalism wants to stay in East Texas to make this her "calling" of sorts. What's Phil gonna put her in next? In a light news segment for the 5pm edition? HELL NO!

Can you say, "lowered expectations?"

You know what I think? I think the East Texas TV gods (from 7 and 56 of course) are not 100% in love with Phil Hurley right now!

Very true. Hurley acted like he owned tthe place while at KLTV and Frank Melton and others put him out tne door. So he went over to KETK, where he made the the people there promises he couldn't deliver on. Now he's president and gm olf KYTX, where he's been done in (at the least) by some damsel in distress to whom he said, "Baby, I'm going to make you a news star."

So far he's been taken in by Fox and still has Lauren Jones knocking at his door. And the story isn't yet half over.

Ironic its a CBS affiliate too. The fox affiliate should play it up and say IF YOU WANT REAL NEWS WITH REAL JOURNALISTS WATCH US.

Not sure how much she'd want to stay in town, but in all honesty, she wasn't that much worse than the normal slightly experienced folks that anchor on the weekends and in December. If she was at KLTV or somewhere else where they take pride in making their reporters and anchors better, she could be servicable with a year or so.

That would be great if the Fox affiliate in Tyler had local news. I think I heard rumblings about them starting (their third attempt on that channel) up yet another incarnation of local news, though.

Hmmm....I didn't know that the current Jackson, MS mayor Frank Melton had owned KLTV (though I knew he at one time owned WLBT-3 in Jackson) before Liberty and, now, Raycom. Did he also own KTRE down the road in Lufkin?

Yes, he owned WLBT, KLTV, and KTRE. That's why the company was called TV-3, Inc, when I worked for them in the late 90's. I just didn't know Frank was now Mayor of Jackson?! When did that happen?

Melton was also offered a seat on the Federal Communications Commission but would have had to place all his broadcast interests in a trust. He apparently decided a job with the FCC wasn't worth all that trouble and declined the offer.

He was elected mayor in 2004, if I remember correctly.....and he still is. It's no wonder he washed his hands off of his partnership with Jerry Russell and that other guy who used to own a Ford dealership in Marshall.
