Entercom, which brought WTKL back on a new frequency several weeks ago, announced today it's dropping oldies in favor of a full-time simulcast with 50kw AM giant WWL.

Curious why they'd have put the Oldies back on for such a short time (after Katrina) then dumped it so quickly.

From what I read over at the Louisiana board, the listeners seemed to like hearing the WWL simulcast on the FM because of the signal and reception. Plus the move might've been a pre-empted strike toward Clear Channel Classic Rocker WRNO, which is expected to flip to a Talk format.

BTW the WTKL calls have been replaced with WWL-FM.

As for Oldies 105.3, they live on in cyberspace at www.kool1053fm.com

Revenues aren't close to being right, why prop up a soft FM
when you have a strongly needed Talk AM. I hate another Oldies
demise, but it makes sense here. I actually heard it was staff
in-house consideration afterthe Katrina problems that delayed
the flip as long as it was, as opposed to serving the community
first. Entercom deserves a thumbs up if that is true.

I don't disagree with your premise. But, if that's the case, why in God's name even bother putting Oldies back on for a few weeks only to so suddenly go with the simulcast? A lot of trouble to end up where you started.

Re:Sirius Welcomes New Orleans Oldies Listeners

I heard Don Tandler at Sirius Gold Channel 5 today welcome listeners from Washington DC and New Orleans who recently lost their oldies stations - an "I feel your pain" comment followed by a reminder they could hear oldies on Sirius 24/7. They promote cities by name every time one loses an oldies station - which is happening more & more these days.
