And Good Evening Friends, I'm David Ward.

And that's how the way The venerable anchor of ABC-13 (KTRK) started off Eyewitness News as the true TV legend revealed his real name on the air. But a lot of his colleagues, co-workers, Friends, Neighbors, and even Family members still call him just "Dave". He has been around for a while, and Ward has already celebrated 45 years at ABC-13 last November with no signs of retirement.

I never would have guessed Dave was short for David. Thanks for the clarification on that. ::) Since you've brought it up, David, Dave, Mr. Ward, or whatever you want to call him is the only one left of the longtime Eyewitness news team with the departure of Bob Allen recently. I figure we'll see Dave on the news for a couple more years. I would expect 50 years @ 13 will be the retirement point for him. What a run! They don't make them like Dave Ward anymore.

Besides David Ward, I believe that Bill Balleza is the other senior anchor who have really hold his ground How long has Bill been on Channel 2? Like about 30 years? Both Bill & Ron Stone came to Channel 2 from Channel 11 back in the '70s, As well as Ron Franklin.

Dave did say on an interview on his recent anniversary that when he left Channel 13, it would probably be feet first.

Seems to be a tradition in Houston. He will probably report from his hospital bed, if he is hospitalized before he passes. ;)

Reminds me of my barber Ken. Sure he could retire but he is still cutting hair and it is just him running the shop on Austin Hwy.
