And Here Come The "Mad Men" Ripoffs...

http://www.broadcastingcable.com/bl...Hopes_Magic_City_Can_Cast_a_Mad_Men_Spell.php

"By renewing Magic City two weeks in advance of its series premiere on April 6, [Starz] is hoping that the 1960s-era drama enchants just as many viewers as AMC’s 'Mad Men'... The comparisons to Mad Men are not surprising...

[Starz CEO] "... I think people who have an interest in Mad Men will hopefully have an interest in 'Magic City'..."

I predict "The Magic Hour" will last longer than "Magic City".

"yeah, Bernie, that's what we need....a 60's period drama just like Mad Men, except with a lot
more cussing, blood, gore, and full-frontal nudity."

Remind me again how that "Playboy Club" farce worked for NBC... (Hint: It didn't.)

I'm willing to judge Magic City on its own merits. The only commonality between Mad Men and this new show is that they both take place in the 1960s. That's like saying Forrest Gump and Silkwood are the 'same' because they both took place in the 1970s...or that Barnaby Jones is a "rip-off" of The Maltese Falcon because they both involve private detectives.

After all, how many movies and TV shows - both comedies and dramas) have been set in the 1950s?
