What about 1540 KXPA?

They have Asian program from 7pm to 11pm (Vietnamese, Mandarin, and Cantonese). Also, Hindi on weekends 8-9pm.

Vancouver is heavy multicultural city compare to Seattle. Vancouver nick name is "HONGCOVER" for its mostly heavy Hong Kong Immigrants who brought up lots of real estate in Vancouver during the 90s.

Seattle is mostly white bread city like Portland, Oregon. If Seattle were a multicultural city, then we'll have Spanish on a market wide frequency, (not rimshot like KDDS, KMIA, or KKMO), Fulltime Urban radio format on the FM dial, (KUBE and KHTP) doesn't count, nor does the rimshot signals of (KRIZ, KZIZ, and KYIZ).
 
Seattle is far from being a 'whitebread city'. According to the 2010 census, King County is 36% non-white, and Seattle itself is 34% non-white.

Perhaps the reason there aren't more stations catering to the immigrant community is because the immigrant community in the Seattle area is so diverse. In some school districts in South King County as many as 100 languages are spoken.
 
Seattle is on it's way to getting a full market Spanish FM station. Give it a few years.....

It was a "fire sale" of sorts. The Action Pages people in Mount Vernon bought the station from the Tilton Estate, couldn't run it successfully alongside its core phone book biz, and sold out to "Dave" Dhillon's operation. Personally, I don't think "Dave" did his homework here. Now, Satnam seems to be having problems of their own. The station's been off the air for at least four weeks, and what you hear on the online stream after the preroll is silence and some static. This after their website underwent a recent makeover. Make of that what you will.
 
I noticed they've disappeared too.

Hopefully they're off for a massive and LONG overdue technical overhaul. That telephone line fidelity is just awful.
 
So Mr. Reber needs to re-evaluate his statement. This is NOT a Canadian radio station. It happens to be programming primarily to residents of Canada, but it operates under the Rules and Regulations of the Federal Communications Commission. There are numerous examples of border stations near the Canadian/U.S. and U.S./Mexican borders operating under the regulatory authority of one country, while focusing their programming on the adjacent country. These stations operate under the regulatory authority for the country where the transmitter site is located.
 
I think there's more Asian people in this market than there used to be. Look at Bellevue for example - almost 28% Asian as of the 2010 census. And that includes people from different countries - Japanese, Koreans, Indians, Chinese...

Vancouver and Seattle seem to have about the same number of multicultural radio stations serving both cities. The only thing different, Vancouver has two stations on the FM dial, as compared to one one on the FM dial in Seattle.

I predict that Seattle will soon see another powerful FM station broadcasting multicultural programming, as well as a stronger AM signal somewhere.
 
KDDS is a Seattle rimshot. I do believe in the next few years, Seattle may have a full market Spanish FM station....

Canadian multiculturals operate under different rules mandated by the CRTC. Rules the NAB would NEVER tolerate.

And yes, a 50,000 watt AM station is also very likely. It might even take that to happen first and some promising ratings before FM is even considered......
 
I believe CHMB 1320am is the the strongest of the multicultural AM stations at 50kw day and night. I would be willing to bet a 50kw AM station in Seattle with multicultural programming will be coming in the near future.

I would also be surprised if we don't see some sort of large radio station with Asian programming popping up. Seattle has a very large Asian population, like Vancouver, and the smaller stations with Asian programming do not cover the area very well
 
Jean Suh should seriously look into picking up 1090. She would get a full market signal, Seattle radio listeners will be treated to a hipster-friendly K-Pop format. It should be big with the college crowd.....even if is entirely in Korean. And it's far more worthy of her efforts than the two little signals she currently has.
 
And then, if KSUH becomes 1090, 1230 and 1450 can become Progressive Talk! We don't need no CBS Sports in this market...way too much. Sometimes I listen to Scott Ferrell and his crackling sports voice, however...
