And now for something completely different......

I guess Christian country on WOKR in Remsen was a flop. Not enough support, so EMF Is simulcasting one of their other stations for now. So what do you think the chances are they will sell the station to someone that will program more mainstream and what would that format be?.....

What format does Utica need, they already have the most popular ones for a smaller market in NY.

Country:
WFRG
WBGK

CHR:
WSKS
WNTQ (Even though its Syracuse its big signal must cover Utica decently)

Classic Rock:
WOUR

New Rock:
WKLL
WXUR

AC:
WLZW

Oldies:
WODZ

They already have K-LOVE, NPR and Air 1.

The Mars Hill Network operates a bunch of translators all over New York for its Christian format. They have 102.9 in Syracuse which may cover Utica but probably not that well. And since 93.5 was a Christian station before a translator feeding of the WMHR 102.9 Syracuse signal could be possible.

WNTQ and WWHT both cover the western part of the market pretty well, including the entire Rome area. But as you drive closer to Utica, you begin to get mixed results from these stations, giving WSKS/WSKU exclusive control of the format in the heart of Utica and points eastward.

The market also has hot AC on WUMX, news-talk on WIBX (and recently also WRUN), a few AMs offering sports, and a few (plus a relatively new FM translator) offering standards.

So yeah, the market pretty much has every format covered. All that's left are niche formats that might get some immediate attention, but probably not enough long-term audience to keep it going longer than a year or two before they flip to something else. Not a financially-wise move in a smaller market.

Well Bob, and anyone else, if you were given the three stations WRCK, WOKR, and whatever the other one is, what would you do with them? What formats would be easiest to go after.

107.3 has a better signal than 93.5, one of the biggest reasons it never made it as a rock station was because of WOUR. The closer and much larger market in Syracuse has a few urban and Movin' stations, but I am not sure how these formats would do in a smaller city like Utica. Since 93.5 and 107.3 have a common owner, they could keep 93.5 Air 1 and sell the larger 50kw 107.3 signal which would look more favorable for an existing station looking to expand their coverage.

As of this past week, WRCK and the Air One affiliation has moved to 100.7 and WKVU and K-Love have moved to 107.3's signal. No changes at WOKR 93.5, which remains Air One. :)

Im surprised some big city rock station hasn't tried to buy the WRCK calls yet.

And I just read that God's Country is relaunching in January so they may end up going back to that format soon on 93.5
