and now how will KTU fair?

As we all know WKTU has become a classic dance station ala "movin". Undoubtedly the few former MIX listeners will move to KTU giving them more listeners by default.
We know what demos KTU is after.
My question is, if MIX was failing as a classic dance station why would KTU adopt a classic dance format, not to mention prior to the demize of MIX?
Has CC tweaked it in some attempt to protect their other stations in the market regardless of how KTU performs or is their logic way off???

One of the interesting things about radio is that quite often, when two stations have the same or similar format and one drops out of the race, the one that is left often gets a boost, but not from the entire amount of listeners the other station had. So it remains to be seen what kind of a boost KTU gets. That being said, it's likely that CC and KTU felt that playing the classic disco tunes would get better demos than playing more new dance music. KTU has never been much of a new dance station to begin with, only throwing in some of the very hot new dance songs and pop/hip-hip/r&b crossovers among all the recurrents and disco. They've merely ratcheted up the old music and left all but the most mainstream rhythmic stuff off the air.

I don't see KTU adding much more new music to their rotation, unfortunately.

I agree 100% but I still don't understand why KTU would go classic dance when MIX floundered with the format for years and especially when MIX was still on the air.
Yes they will pick up some new listerners by default but I don't think enough to improve their demos and ratings.

It looks like it was a smart move by KTU. I guess they had a crystal ball or something and knew if they shifted they would put Mix 102.7 out of Business. Which in turn would give them better ratings, probably alot better if they didn't shift at all and Mix stayed around.

WKTU will probably see their best days ahead of them with the demise of MIX 102.7FM WNEW, even though they may not pick up all of the MIX listeners.

There was a time when the new KTU had numbers in the Top 10. But Mix has probably siphoned some listeners away from KTU.

Obviously KTU will get a small boost from the demize of MIX but since MIX's format floundered from day 1 why would CC think the demos would be that great from an already failing format from their direct competitor.

People are forgetting that WKTU (as far and away those times are) still holds that nostalgic advantage of cashing in on that heritage status that it still enjoys some 25 years later. This is why as Mix 102.7 couldn't pull off the 'classic dance' format, KTU can flip-flop all it wants between classic and currents.

Because enough of us can go to sleep at night knowing that those call letters still bring us back to the days when we knew it as 'Studio 92 KTU,' thanks to Shep Pettibone, Tony Humphries, and the Latin Rascals to name a few....this is why even today, as KTU is a shadow of its former self, CC can get away with sliding the format scales a bit with KTU and not suffer dearly the way Mix 102.7 might have.

By the way, is it me or did somebody in Nebraska sabotage the NYC radio airwaves?
