And now, I am going to blow your mind.

And now I am going to blow your mind. You are the first to hear this, as you should be. I hold in my possession the entire final broadcast week of WIBG September 5th – 10, 1977, in its entirety. And if anyone will second my motion, I will run it, on HyLitRadio.com in its chronological order, one the actual date of the broadcast, 30 years later, beginning September 5th, starting at 12 noon. This will culminate the August roll-out of HyLitsMainStreet and HyLitsMediaCapture digital system integration platforms. Does anyone wish to second this motion for an all-supreme tape recorder alert? All in favor say I.

;D If you had the final broadcast of Famous 56 WFIL, You might have something!!APE!

Sam, I second the motion and look foward to hearing it !!!!!
Big Ape ,WFIL (FAMOUS 56) Was already dead for a couple of years when it finally gave up,there was no special goodbye when it left.
the Final week of WIBG was very well orchestrated ,especially the final hour with HY Putting the Grand Old Lady of ROCK'N ROLL to sleep.

It will be great to hear that week again, beyond the several hours I taped and listen to occassionally! Hy went crazy with all the old Wibbage jingles that week, blending them between songs, and sounded as he did in his Wibbage prime years. The cross-overs between Niagara and Lit when they recalled stories were great.

I still wonder why PD 'Pig Virus' didn't take Wibbage to an oldies format rather than becoming WZZD, which seemed doomed as top 40 was moving off to FM. Niagara & Lit were available, it could have been great. I also wondered why someone never thought to take it to 98.9 (which switched from MOR to country around that era) and continue WIBG Radio 99 there?

As far as WFIL, was there an actual day it went from top 40 to AC, or was it a gradual shift? What would be considered the 'end' of 'famous 56' WFIL - when it went AC, when it went country, when it dropped local oldies programming, or when it became the simulcast of 101.1? I have on tape the last show Bob Charger did when the 'oldies' format was dropped (1986?) and they went to 24/7 satellite oldies feed, ending with an extended version of "The End" by Earl Grant.

Obviously, most of us cannot invest a full week of real time listening. Will this be available in some downloadable format?

WOW! I've been a Wibbage fan since I started to listen in 1962. Will you eventually put each day in an MP3 format so we can download and have the piece of history for all times? Thank you Sam!!!

Ok. Don’t have the full week to listen continuously, then how ‘bout this classic radio fans. How would you like if I ran it scoped, edited precisely to the beat. That would take total listening time down by marginal leaps. This way I can run the corresponding daily’s, multiple times per day. How do you want it served up, full length or scoped?

I would prefer to hear the whole week, UNADULTERATED! Commercials, news and all the rest intact. But, it still brings us back to the time element. I like the idea of having the day's in MP3 format as well, or even on a series of CD's available for purchase. But if that's not possible, then play the whole week unscoped. I'll just have to catch what I can, when I can. Thanks.

Hard to believe it will be 30 years this Sept.It would be nice if ch.12 WHYY did one of there special programs on WIBBAGE. The station was a special part of the Delaware Valley.

A tribute to WIBBAGE ON WHYY CHANNEL 12 is long over due,but Like RODNEY DANGERFIELD "WIBBAGE" Get's no respect.
Ed Cunningham has put together some great show's through the years paying tribute to many of the Great Pioneers of television and Radio
there are still many original "WIBBAGE GOOD GUYS" Around who deserve to be Honored ,starting with HY LIT (The WIBBAGE FRANCHISE) Also available are BILL WRIGHT SR., DEAN TYLER, FRANK X FELLER, JERRY STEVENS, RAY GILMORE and Even "HUMBLE" HARVEY MILLER AND DON L. BRINK (SCOTTY BRINK after The WIBBAGE Days are out there.
if it was not for Storer Broadcasting turning in their commercial license on CHANNEL 12 IN DELAWARE,There may never have been WHYY on CHANNEL 12 and as you all know it was Storer Broadcasting that owned WIBBAGE During those great days of PHILADELPHIA RADIO.
Tell ED CUNNINGHAM To bench the "GEATOR" for a night and show WIBBAGE the Respect it Deserves.

Q: IS the audio from the skimmer, studio tape, pre or post processing, or off the air? It would be nice to hear it through that giant plate modulated, Camden built, 50000 watt RCA Ampliphase transmitter, just as we remember it.

I'm looking forward to hearing the late George Benson, the "All Night Diner" again. I believe he was on that Saturday morning.

The Ampliphase wasn't plate modulated;it had 2 25 kW RF chains running ito a combiner. The audio would change the phase angle between the two, resulting in 0 to 100% modulation. The 990 I used to work for in Providence RI, originally WLKW, also ran a BTA-50G as its main rig.

The audio was taken over the air. So effectively you will hear it directly from the output stage of the RCA BTA-50G. I will be running it scoped, as seamless uninterrupted editing, with the full content intact. Daily run time will be approximately 60 minutes, or there about, to encompass the entire 6 hr. Hy Lit show, for six continuous days, September 5-10. Summarily, each day will air, scoped, on the corresponding date/day, beginning at 12 noon EDT, 30 years later. There will be a repeat broadcast, every three hours, continuously, around the clock, until the next day, at 12 noon, at which time, that corresponding broadcast day will launch. Additionally, I have another major historical timeline radio broadcast component to announce. More to come. Stay tuned.

Sam,

I'm not a regular listener but I catch it when I can. I don't ever see (or hear) anything on hylitradio.com or radio-info.com about your dad broadcasting a live show over the net. Is there a day/time that he actually does a live show on the net, or is this something that is possibly planned for the future?

I would think that if he is ever on live that it would be discussed here, but I've never read such discussion on this board.

He is live, all day on HyLitRadio. Some are voice tracked/live daily. Some are live/live. See if you can even tell the difference. After all it is rather consuming doing a 16 hour daily show.

OK. Like I said, I don't get to listen too often and when I do, it's usually in the background. I don't have too much time for active radio listening, but what I have heard sounds good. Thanks.

I don't know how anyone can do 16 hours a day. I just figured he would do a 4-5 hour show a few times a week at scheduled times and the rest of it would be voice-tracked. Keep up the good work.

I must have misunderstood your initial post. I though you had the entire week of five 24 hour day's to re-broadcast, but it is just Hy's airshifts. Is that correct? Maybe I didn't read this correctly either, but is the entire 6 hour shift condensed into one hour? Is it just Hy on the air with the music, news and commercials cut out?

I will only be running the Hy Lit show content. There was no news on his afternoon show. We will be running today's HyLitRadio sponsors, not the advertisers 30 years ago. However, if we have sponsorship participation that chooses to air their retrospective commercial spots, then we will run it. Of course, I remember the show in vivid detail; I ran Hy’s board that week, while I was also employed at the time by General Cinema’s WIFI/92 Philadelphia. I received a check from Fairbanks broadcasting for my contracted production and consulting services, for the revival week, with General Cinema’s blessing.

Sam, will you post the entire tape, not just Hy's shift, in it's entirety somehow? For historical purposes beyond just the interests of Hy Lit Radio? I'll host some of the mp3 files for members of this board to download, if bandwidth is a concern of yours.

I will have to talk with Hy about what he wants to do as far as expanded marketing, going forward, is concerned. I will say this, the final product, short and long versions are still in production, and will be for a few weeks, as we have to edit/overlay the digital versions of the songs in to the broadcast content for an expanded digital quality version. So I think he has something in mind for dedicated long play availability. Additionally, he intends to have video content from the final week’s air performances, as well as videos of the songs from the Hy Lit TV Show archives inserted for the expanded long play release. I think, and like I said I do not know what his final decision will be, but in all probability, it will be an MPEG/video pod cast.
We do own our own server infrastructure here at HyLitRadio, so in all probability, he will direct dedicated downloading from our sites. There are sync right associated with the Video and Music download transfers, so those logistic will also have to be consummated before the release. Therefore, I do not have the launch date for these Releases and final production availabilities.
