...AND NOW THERE ARE TWO (D/FW MARKET)

KLEG/44 fired up its digital plant this afternoon (Friday 3 SEP 2010). Azteca is on 44-1. Its three other streams are showing PSIP IDs of 3-2, 3-3 and 3-4.

The last two market-wide analog facilities are KZFW/6 (which operates primarily as an FM) and K25FW/25.

DFW might be the first market in the country to be fully digital.

The most surprising thing is how long it took them. They seemed awfully anxious to make the switch back in May.

First major market, perhaps. First market at all? Charlottesville VA (where I live) has been all digital since June 12, 2009. I also think Greensboro NC might be digital-only at this point.

On the other hand, I surmise that KZFW/6 will try to keep the analog going as long as possible since the station exists side-effect of its FM radio facility at 87.7.

Houston is all-digital and has been since this February (when KCVH 30 fired up the analog transmitter for a few days to show prospective buyers).
