And Now......

I just checked it out, and enjoy it greatly. I am only 32 years old, but I grew up listening to the music played on all three Hy Lit Radio channels.

Thank you for keeping the memories alive!

-Kingbill

The music selection is great - but could we have the classic country jingles to go with it like HyLitRadio does- I'd love to hear the original WRCP "Real Country Power" Marboro man-inspired jingles from 1967 (40th anniversary coming up Sept. 7th) and the more modern ones added later, plus those from "Philly 56 Country", WEEZ's great '60's jingles ("Country music, you get more and more, from Philadelphia-Wilmington, along the corridor, 1-5-9-0, WEEZ!". Plus WEEP Pittsburgh, WWVA Wheeling, WHIM Providence, WJJD & WMAQ Chicago, WCMS & WTID Norfolk, KLAC Los Angeles, etc.

Keep these Hyski formats coming!

That’s funny. I have received more than one request for WRCP jingles. We do have all the of country jingles, from all of the stations locally, and across the US, from 1958-78. However, they will need to be selected and edited out of the original packages. (Not every jingle recorded is air worthy). That will take some time. And we’re already running a full production schedule, with the Wibbage 30 year rebroadcast, and complimenting component editing underway. So, give us a few weeks to put that in gear, and I promise you some real super gems to compliment the Hy Lit Country expansion. Stay tuned.

All I can say is WOW, Please Help Me I'm Fallin, Little White Cloud that cried, Coal Miners daughter, I am shocked, I never knew Hy was into Classic Country, I thought he was just a soul man like all the other Philly jocks. I do know he loved the British Invasion and worshipped the Beatles, in fact I remember a time when George told a news program when the fab four appeared in Philly in 64 he was hit in the hand with a stone, but Hy came to the rescue and told George it was not a Philly show, the Beatles enjoyed their stay here.....I wish this format could make it to T-radio even if on AM although the stereo effect is fabulous. Now I hear Patches Dicky Lee now that is a mind boggeler wow sounds tremendous.

I checked the new streams out for a few minutes Sunday morning. TheRythym channel was dissapoining, as I was hoping for "Classic R&B", but got, sorry to say, "Wizzard 100" disco instead. Sorry, just not my cup of hemlock.

I tried the Country channel for a few minutes, and couldn't turn it off! Fabulous!! I haven't heard Crystal Gayle's "Talking In Your Sleep" in about 20 years, since WIP was music. John Denver, Conway Twitty, Glen Campbell. Two kinds of music: Country AND Western!

To borrow another movie phrase, "play it again Sam". Thanks. I'm tickled. Got any Hank Snow? Bob Wills? Merle?

And Now......REQUESTS!

Glad to see all is well, Sam.

Here's my short list...

Crystal Gayle "Waiting For The Times To Get Better" (Art Bell withdrawl)
Oak Ridge Boys "Elvira"
"Whisperin" Bill Anderson "I Love You Drops"
Judds "Cow Cow Boogie"
Ronnie Milsap "There Ain't No Gettin' Over Me"

Here's a challenge - can you find "Pennsylvania Turnpike" by Dick Todd? It was a #1 on WRCP's "Country Power Music Guide" in 1968 and was played nationally. I haven't heard it for years but still remember some of the lyrics: "Pennsylvania Turnpike, I love you so, all the way from Jersey to Ohio, oh how I long for the beautiful mountains, and the fields of grass, and the friendly roadstands, where we eat and get gas...". Lowell Howard, original morning man at WEEZ in the '60's had a classic country show in the '90's on WSSJay - I called him and requested it but he loved the song but didn't have a copy, he said they didn't take care of the records on WEEZ and didn't keep the library.

I think people forget just how many country crossovers there were in the '50's to '70's, Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins, Patsy Cline, Brenda Lee, Charley Pride, Ferlin Husky, Hank Locklin, The Browns, Glen Campbell, Kenny Rogers, etc. so many classic country songs are familiar even to those who didn't listen to country radio.

I would love to hear a channel that strikes a balance between WMGK and the Deep Tracks channel on XM. WMGK's playlist is way too narrow, and Deep Tracks can be too obscure at times for my taste. Any chance we'll see a re-birth of HySki's Underground, or something close to what Ed Sckiacky(SP) did with the Sunday Night Alternative?

That may be difficult, but the search is on.

You can send all your favorite requests to [email protected]. Tommy is the new program director of all the channels.
Andy Volvo has ascended to Executive Operations manager.

Yes, and yes.

Ed Schiacky started his commercial radio career on Hyski's underground, at WDAS/FM.

Hy's initial WDAS-FM staff was Ed Schiakey, Michael Tearson, Larry Magid (Electric Factory Concerts), T. Morgan, Gene Shay, Wayne Joel, Steve Marko (WIP's Steve Martarano) and Rod Carson (now with KYW Traffic. ROD was also an anchor newsman at WIBG during the 60's).
For more history, look under '1968', at this link. http://www.hylitradio.com/index.php?page=6

Hey this is great. I grew up with Hyski on WIBBAGE, WDAS et al...I love the phiiy sound, the oldies, and even classic country. I remember the country countdowns on 1540 WRCP. I live in Connecticut now...but always PHILLY at heart

Here's a country classic. I haven't listened to the country channel (but I will).

Do you have "Philadelphia Fillies" by Del Reeves. It was a country hit back when.
