I do applaud "The Blaze" for its success. And, I also applaud them for their hiring practices and taking a chance on this format when everyone else tried to say that you would never be able to sell that format in East Texas.
That's what they told me 15 years ago. Unfortunately, I could not get the investment money together to buy a station to try it. I knew that it could be done.
I have no issues with "The Blaze" whatsoever. I do have an issue with its parent company and the new format on 99.3. You guys had a chance to do something posiitive for the Black community, by doing a straight-up Urban AC format, and really cornering the market on those demos. I have always admired Robert Scorpio and thought he did an incredible job wherever he went as a PD/Jock. However, I don't know where he came up with this format?!
It is a slap in the face to all African-American adults who deserve a station that caters to them, without all the Hip-Hop and street lingo that you hear on The Blaze. I'm just terribly disappointed in Rusty and the direction the station has taken.
I have no disrespect whatsoever for "The Blaze". I applaud their success. With that being said, if V99.3 were a true Urban AC, you could have the best of both worlds. <P ID="signature">______________
