Dan Wentz Exits WILN/Panama City
MAGIC BROADCASTING/PANAMA CITY has parted ways with Top 40 WILN morning host DAN WENTZ. A replacement is being sought, so send your packages to Dir./Programming JO VALENTINE at [email protected] or snail mail it to 7106 Laird Street, PANAMA CITY, FL 32408.

I bet everyone in town is loving this.

Way to go in the middle of a book, so lets see if we get this right -

Bring in a new person or multiple people at different times for Wave 100 mornings (gone)

person from Sunny for Wave 100 midday (gone)

a new chick for 97X, comes in get DUI in station vehicle (gone)

lead for the morning show on Island 106, which helped the station tie PAP two books ago (gone)

The brilliance on Laird is astounding. Lots of folks over there have got to be wondering whats going and who is next.

Questions for the board

1. Who would want that job?

2. I wonder who is next, any guesses?

Plenty of people will want that job. Some already in PC and many outside the market. Those outside will see a "dream job," doing CHR AMD with a hot-sounding station in a nationally-famous beach town--the self-proclaimed home of the "world's most beautiful beaches." Pretty cool, huh? If you don't think there's a highly talented jock in Madison or Flint lusting for the gig right now, you're a trifle naive. Oh, yeah--and they'll take a paycut to do it.

Inside the market? Mmmmmm. Well, the lure of the beach means nothing to them--and they already know it won't pay much. But... you know, it's morning drive. And CHR is so much fun. And Island was such a cool station when they were a kid. And they have so much confidence in their own ability to handle any situation. Happens all the time.

As far as the sudden exit goes... well, only two people really know the scoop--and their perceptions are colored by their positions: employee and employer. So we'll really never know.

Surely, you gest. Plenty of people want this job when the staff keeps "Magically" disappearing? If anyone thinks that this job is up for grabs and they have a chance, then they deserve whatever recourse is involved in applying. For a certainty there is already someone standing in the wings; "Hired and Planned." The ad is just to cover the company's tail. As usual, backward behavior for a very backward company.
Wait for the ratings!!!!!!!!

Looks like Magic must be getting nervous about something... they've pulled their afternoon guy on Wave 100 in favor of John Tesh...

That's old news, the wave is now a one man show and can't even stay on the air.

I heard that they already have their replacement...that's what they do. Fire someone after they have already hired someone and then advertise it later...can they do that? Aren't there rules against that? Who is running that company?

who would want to run that company? it was ran backwards with styles and now its being ran into the ground. the patience and $$$$ it would take to fix that cluster!

Styles have been broadcasters in that market for 15+ years and have a great track record. The cluster was No. 1 as recently as Spring 2005. They took a near death WTVY and brought it back to No. 1.

Don't know much about the current regime.

Tom and Kim are sure being quiet. Say what you will about them, but they are certainly probably
in the Top 5 most sane owners ever on PCB. Just for kicks, I'd have to put CC in there as well.
That's a freebie for Charlie!

RNR --- you're post above seems to pretty much prove you ain't on that there Panhandle no more.
(We all knew that.) You're making toooo much sense.

You forgot that lots of past station owners owned bars to make sure employees owed them money
to work on those luscious (new phrase) white sand beaches...

Endless supply of dreamy-eyed future radio stars are probably on 231 now...

Yeah, I'm "Up North" (that means anywhere north of Troy) but did slip down to the Emerald Coast last year to let a couple of different licensees tempt me with their management openings and the "white sand beaches." Had I been serious, I'd have shown a little flexibility and not been quite so candid about my inability to pull a magic wand out of my butt to fix the problems they'd created. Instead I was very truthful, and that was NOT what they wanted to hear. But, hey--it was a free trip. LOL!

I had indeed forgotten about the co-owned watering holes ("Sorry, Son, but your final paycheck all went toward your bar bill.") And Kim & Tom + CC get my votes, too. The folks I had managed for in PCB were certifiable, albeit in a somewhat charming & laughable way.

Picked up a real estate rag last week at Barnes & Noble touting Panama City as the new #1 new housing growth market in America. So maybe I should have told those folks what they wanted to hear ("It's a sales problem!") and taken one of those gigs, after all!
