And the downward spiral continues in Marion-Carbondale

That's what happens when you have an established CHR trying to be all things to all people. Be what you are. Not AC, not hot AC, not modern AC, don't daypart your music. Be a TRUE CHR. If you don't you'll just piss off ALL of the people listening, and lose bad in the end. Like you just did. Losing Steve and DC didn't help either. I smell a format change.
 
This is an embarrassment to cil. How does a premiere top 40 station go from a 7.2 to a 5.3, and now to a 4.6 in less than 1 year? Something is badly wrong. Hopefully Zimmer will fix this problem immediately, and “review” the staff, and direction of the music.
 
Letting Steve and DC leave was their biggest mistake. Putting Kato on mornings probably wasn't the best move either although he did sound really good at night. They should have kept Steve and DC, and put Leah during the day, Kato in afternoons, and hire a really good evening person. Apparently they don't care how bad they sound.
 
From what I've heard from a few different people, this station has way more problems than just ratings. They are apparently being investigated for payola/plugola. Now I'm not saying this is true, but the rumor is that johnny Quest has made some illegal deals with record companies, paying for such things as his little sisters prom dresses, her rent for her landlord for many months, and for several big screen TV's. Like I said, I'm not sure about all of this. I only say this because I have heard it from a couple of people who seem to know the truth. If I'm wrong, then I can accept that, but if I am right, I'm sure Lisa Madigan would love to know all about these activities. She has been notified, and I am sure we will all know the outcome in the near future.

I think that WCIL-FM should put a contemporary Christian rock program back on Sunday evenings the way they used to back in the '70s with Jerry Bryant's "Jesus Solid Rock". Jerry's no longer in C'dale, so find another local person who can do it like Jerry did. If it goes well, expand it to Saturday evening, too.

I agree, except I would only have it on Sunday nights only.

I always thought Steve and DC were a bad fit for CIL. When Zimmer picked up the show, Steve and DC were on Kix 106, which was Country at the time. Who wants to listen to Alan Jackson or George Strait talking about a new album they're working on and you hear Snoop Dog during the local break?

I realize Steve and DC had decent numbers on CIL, but they were nowhere near as good as John Riley.
John kept up with what was going on in the Carbondale-Marion-S.IL area. Steve and DC didn't.

I thought it was strange that CC didn't go live and local when they flipped the hot ac station to Kiss and ran Rick Dees morning show(then he was replaced by Valentine, who was replaced by Steve and DC when Max Media took over CIL). But then again, it's Clear Channel. I shouldn't be surprised.

Max Media needs to clean house and start from scratch. Keep CIL as a mainstream top 40. Go after a hungry PD and let him do his thing without corporate getting too involved. Get a new imaging voice. Show up at every event in Southern IL. Get a local morning show from here in the region. (AJ on WDDJ in Paducah is turning heads in Western KY and can be heard in Marion-Carbondale. He's reallllllyyyyy good.) Take CIL back to number one and keep it there.
 
I agree that CIL was a much better station when John Riley did mornings, even though Steve and DC had better numbers, perhaps they were not the best fit for the station, but anything is better than what they are doing now. You are right max media should clean house, and hire a good program director, plus clean house on the entire staff, because it literally sounds like a college radio station. The WCIL call letters are heritage, and by listening to it now shows nothing but failure. I remember when CIL had a great morning show, workday was solid, plus afternoons were right on target, and nights dominated all of Southern Illinois. EVERY daypart is suffering now, and sounds pathetic. Either they need to replace everyone, or hire a consultant, because what they are doing now is a shame.
 
I have to say that I agree with the above poster. WCIL does need a new PD, staff, and voice talent. Who is that guy on cil doing the liners? Is it someone in house? Whoever decided to use that guy needs to re-evaluate everything. He is the worst voice talent that I've ever heard. There are so many problems with this station that could easily be fixed, but it only gets worse. By the way AJ at WDDJ would be a great improvement for the morning show, and Steve Thomas from MIX in Cape would be great for afternoons. Finding a GOOD night guy might be difficult, but anything would be better than whoever is attemping it now.
 
Come on that guy on DDJ is terrible. He laughs after everythng he says and uses canned bits or does time, temp and intro. But you are correct, he is better than that screechy voiced girl and John E. Quest.
 
AJ on DDJ sounds good. Maybe not the best, but like you said "better than John E Quest" But I have to disagree with you about his sidekick. Leah has alot of talent and I think she sounds really good on the radio. Without her the morning show would be nothing. As far as the rest of CIL, if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all :'(
 
Funny. A “Grill off” between WCIL and Z 100. Now that is some compelling, cutting edge, entertaining morning radio. Give me a break. The talent pool in Paducah is waiting and ready for the house cleaning At Zimmer radio group. WOW this is much better than anything Steve and DC had ever done. NEW MANAGEMENT PLEASE!
 
Any update on the Z100 vs. W3D wars? Who the better station airstaff-wise?
 
3D has the better airstaff hands down. That afternoon guy on Z-100 sucks! Tracey is good. The morning show on Z-100 could go away, after all they got nuttin' honey anyway.
 
When i tune to Z100, i flip to W3D on the internet a few seconds later.

I'd love to see documentation on the Jon E. Quest sister (who now does a prime shift on the radio station, btw) thing, because I've heard the very same information. I've said it before and I'll say it again... WCIL-FM is a mess and needs an overhaul, starting with Chad Elliot and Jon Graskiwicz (sp).
