And The Jingle Winner Is!!

Wow. It took Joy 13 minutes to reload the music list? Or did it take them that long to notice that Star went?

Either way, I don't see any winners here.

And the listeners say, ho-ho-hold everything, it ain't even Thanksgiving...check back with us after we're full of turkey and maybe we'll listen, meanwhile I'm tuning over to 104.1...

WJYE was obviously ready to go at 6am, Rox. There was an ad in today's Buffalo News. Perhaps the programmers at Star saw the ad in the paper and decided to get the 13 minute jump. Whatever! Many of us here may believe it's too soon for holiday music. I don't listen to either of these stations anyway, so it doesn't matter to me what they do. But there must be thousands of listeners who are tuning in, or we would have seen the ratings of both stations plummet in the past by such an early launch. This must work in attracting both advertisers and listeners, or they wouldn't do it.

Star and Joy, by going this early, will drive more than a few listeners to WHTT and Jack. Heard Jack today in a convenience store that always has Star on. Always. It's like a P-1 Star store. Walked in and Jack was playing. A woman is the gatekeeper for the radio in that store. It may be too early for Christmas even for Women 35-49. Being a certified male, I dunno. Guess it's what you have to do to survive in the AC arena these days.

Both Star & Joy have been on a downward ratings trend lately. Christmas music may be a way to stop the bleeding while they figure out how to tweak the formats.

Classic Hits has always properly made the 'switch' as in years past, blending in slowly, then blending out slowly. Many on this board may have worked on Dec 26th, playing Fleetwood Mac Gypsy , as if the holidays end 4 minutes after midnight on Dec 25th.

No questions its for Francine fat-thighs, our 41yo middle aged woman who has christmas decorations in her cubicle already and never gets tired of The Carpenters Christmas album. Id say a good 20-25% of female Facebook contacts already referencing Christmas music to get them "in the spirit". So, clearly not for the fellas here, which is totally fine....

Yes, its the early nature of the world we live in, where Christmas decorations sit on one side of shelf on Halloween, with costumes on the other..

And it makes you wonder....

If the USA adopted Canada's Thanksgiving on October 13th, would Halloween be such a big deal in stores?

I think if the USA publicly adopted anything Canadian, it would be like Christmas for a certain genre of talk show hosts!

But no, I don't think it would change anything... Christmas runs right over Thanksgiving now, and Christmas co-exists with Halloween in at least a couple of stores.

What might get impacted is Black Friday, though... oops, I think I just answered the question in a more economic way...

Which I think is too bad. The 12 Days of Christmas is not just a song...
