Thanks for the great trip down into the deep depths of my memory banks. I really cannot add anything much to this thread there is so much listed I'd be just repeating things. OH for the glory days of some of the music noted and the great days of radio....To bad we can't change things back to what they should be.

Just reading this thread must have taken you the entire weekend!

But hey, the drive to 50,000 views continues! Moving right along...I don't think anyone's posted "Oh Me Oh My" (I'm A Fool For You Baby) by Lulu...which stalled at #22 early in 1970.

What a happy little memory!

I'll stage a ballet on a tabletop
Command performance finger size
Though I ain't got no tune
My show won't fly
But I'll find the music in your eyes...

We'll blow a genie from a cigarette
Take a magic carpet ride
We'll tell our smoky friend, "Now don't forget
You must keep us side by side"

Excellent little tune. And it's mine all mine.

One song you never hear on classic hits stations (and rarely these days on classic rockers) is "Mississippi Queen" by Leslie West & Mountain. It peaked in the top 25 as a single back in 1970 and got a LOT of play on AOR radio back in the day...a lot more obscure tracks from that time are more likely to be heard today (just heard Traffic's 'Dear Mr. Fantasy' last week and I don't remember it ever charting as a single).

Could it have anything to do with the politically incorrect jokes a lot of jocks made about the title of that song back then, which wouldn't be considered acceptable now?

I would hope not...I do know Ozzy Osbourne remade it a few years back and of course it got play because it was Ozzy...but it was leaden and sludgy sounding to me...not complimentary to either Ozzy or the song.

Silkie, it's true confessions time: Although I remembered the song as a current from CJRN/Niagara Falls (during my two years as a landed immigrant in 1969 and 1970), I couldn't have told you the artist to save my life.

Then last week on Kent Kotal's Forgotten Hits http://forgottenhits60s.blogspot.com, it showed up as his "Forgotten Hit Of The Day"...and I went, "that was Lulu?" Once I played it, it was obvious...it's just been 40 years since I last heard it.

I knew she had another record or two including an attempt at a comeback in 1981, "I Could Never Miss You" on the short-lived Alfa label...the imprint that gave us "You Saved My Soul" by Burton Cummings and the first failed release of Billy & the Beaters' "I Can Take Care Of Myself". (The second failed release of that song came as the follow up to "At This Moment").

A three-fer of Stiffiloinis in that last paragraph!

KSLX plays it WAY too much! That's one of those songs that hits my preset immediately.

Stumbling upon the search function, I found the Lulu stiff was originally posted by Robert Craig Savage on April 2, 2009. It sure is a cool song. Let's put it in Stiffs Re-current. Make a special Selector packet and rotate it 10 pm - 5 am Sun-Mon-Tue-Wed, Summer months only, restricted first and last quarter moon.

Radnowski, I should've known...a Stiffs recurrent it is!

And even though it was a giant hit...I still remember "Rainy Days And Mondays" in a card system marked..you guessed it..."Rainy Mondays ONLY".

That said, I'm pretty sure Carpenters' cover of Klaatu's "Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft" was a big, big stiff.

Don't think I ever mentioned Dwight Twilley's "Little Bit Of Love" that was stillborn in the summer of '84.

That commercial has been on for a good while. I have only heard the instrumental intro or a bridge.

Can this be? I just heard "Pictures of Matchstick Men" on a TV spot for Target!

Ironically, I have been compiling a list of tunes of the Heyday that are resurrected on promos/spots in the present day marketing scheme (coming to an Info-Topic soon). Did someone say "promote to the Baby Boomers...still"?

Great minds think alike! ;) I've been pondering that topic as well but since you brought it up, I'll leave it up to you. ;D

The search function says that no one has yet mentioned "Ha Ha Said The Clown" by the Yardbirds. Could that be?? KB played it for a while when it was released back in '67.

Some others that might already have been included here: "King Midas In Reverse" by the Hollies, "Glad To Be Unhappy" by the Mamas and the Papas, "It's Wonderful" by the Rascals, "Cherry Baby" by Starz....

Stop me, stop me!

Yes, but in other threads. It was one of intheeno's favorites when he was in "clown mode." But it works here.

I know Starz was mentioned. The others? Whew boy.

BTW, there is no vaccine for Stiffs-thread-virus.
