And The Stiffs Just Keep On Comin'

Hot Chocolate was mentioned awhile back. A song you'll only hear on 70s flashback countdown shows is their song "Emma". Maybe that's as it should be. Peter Frampton's I'm In You was also mentioned. I wouldn't say it was a stiff since it did hit #2 but I would nominate the movie Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band including Frampton, the Bee Gees and many others who should have known better as one of the biggest music/movie stiffs of all time.

You're absolutely right. The SPLHCB sound track makes the Tommy movie sound track sound like a classic - and that's hard to do.

Back on topic, here are four quickies...haven't heard these in decades over the air.

No (Bulldog) circa 1972

Sunny Days (Lighthouse) Can-con that received good airplay in Buffalo

The Funky Gibbon (The Goodies) I remember Berns talking it up at the beginning of his show circa 1976 at WYSL or maybe Y-103..or was WPHD??

Whirly Girl (OXO) 1983
 
I remember playing The Bulldogs on KB for about 5 minutes. But I can't recall The Funky Gibbon at all, although I'm sure I talked it up ::)
 
Oh yes, OXO....

I remember I was selling cars when "Whirly Girls" came out......first heard it on the radio (FM99 in Rochester) just as I was pulling a new Mustang up for a customer's demo drive.....heard it come on, and wound up hiding in the back lot while it played...loved it then and now...and for the record, I sold the people that car!

A couple more from the same period:

1. "Stop In The Name Of Love" by the Hollies (or what was left of them)

2. "Fascination" by the Human League (a weak follow up to "Don't You Want Me- but I thought it was so much better than DYWM)

BTW Nitro99, IIRC if you heard it in '76 it was probably Y103...(unless you were listening to AM)WPHD didn't come back until '77 or 78.
