And The Stiffs Just Keep On Comin'

Instrumentals, eh? Well now. Long before there was "Three Times a Lady," there was "Machine Gun" by the Commodores. Son Of Scorpio always sounded great on the Big 8. It was one of the many songs that revealed that station's outstanding processing.

"Midnight In Moscow," Kenny Ball. "You Got Style," Jon & Robin & The In Crowd. And the hideous follow-up to their actual hit "Western Union:" "Zip Code" by the Five Americans.

"Gotta Get Back To You," Tommy James & The Shondells.

"Walk Through The Blast Furnace," Horst Jankowski.

Um, "Hot Smoke & Sasafrass" from Bubble Puppy. Heres the website link (go figure that one!)
www.bubblepuppy.com - Don't everyone click at once--you'll blast the server!! Coming soon to a TV or radio near you - a car manufacturer spot highlighting this very tune ;)

Don't know if these have been mentioned, but I heard 'em on old airchecks of mine:

"Give It Up" - Harry Wayne Casey (aka K.C. without his Sunshine Band) 1984
"My Girl (Gone, Gone, Gone)" - Chilliwack ~1978 YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yahBtp_1jWE

"I love My Music" - Wild Cherry ~1977
"Driver's Seat" - Sniff 'n the Tears ~1979

Another instrumental- "The Lonely Surfer" - Jack Nietzsche Orchestra 1963
and another "Amie Caline (Soul Coaxing)" - Raymend LeFevre 1968

And I'm sure Savage meant "Walk Through the Black Forest" !

Forgive any dups, I didn't look through all 29 pages of this thread...

Must be a lot of traffic. What with all the radio types being layed off, they're all writing and reading these boards. Hey, Radio-Info guys... you might need a bigger pipeline.

That's probably why I keep getting a 501 error "Gateway Time Out"

How about...

"Second Avenue" by Tim Moore. Topped out at #58 in 1974. I think this song was written for Art Garfunkel. He may have done it on one of his LPs. If Garfunkel had released it as a single, it might have charted better than #58... and if Jerry Meyers had promoted it, it would've been #1 on WKBW and WYSL. Then again, maybe not. It's one of those sappy love gone wrong songs that might sound good on the radio once every three years. Although somethin' tells me that if Lifehouse, Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat or (insert your choice of artist-group here) did this song today, it'd be a top 10 hit.

Art Garfunkel did record and release it on his 1988 GH album "Garfunkel" and the AC station I was on at the time gave it airplay.

Speaking of Garfunkel, how about "Disney Girls" - written by Beach Boy Bruce Johnston.

Since I'm hooked on this thread, a flurry of songs are rattling through my head...
Buffalo natives Jack Blanchard and Misty Morgan's "Tennessee Birdwalk" - a country hit which had some crossover airplay.

I used to listen to the KB year-end countdowns back in the 70s. I still have some of the lists. I have to ask DB or anyone else who might remember a question. In 1973 Jim Schoenfeld's "Schony" LP was on the list. I assume it's the Sabres' player but was curious what kind of an album it was? Instrumentals? Covers? Play-by-play of his fights? ???

If it was Jim Schoenfeld's Greatest Hits it was probably his hockey fights. I didn't actually hear it. Also how about I'm On Fire by the Dwight Twilley Band?

Amazing nominations. Here, not the Oscars.

Roxy Music: "More Than This" with audio that sounds like it came off a grey Fidelipac with a 5% up-speed... like they did for a while on WGR during the AC days, making the gorgeous and silk-voiced Karen Carpenter sound like a chipmunk.

Ah, the "Schony" album. It was indeed our favorite donut-diatribist warbling a selection of "classic" covers (think "Adam Sandler"). The inside cover had several pictures from some of his on-ice "hits".

You can get more info - and download this "classic" in toto (if you have a fast Internet connection) - at http://vinylorphanage.com/?p=162

Yes, John, that was the Sabres' Jim Schoenfeld doing an album of covers, if I remember correctly. Produced by Jerry Meyers.

What local band is next, Big Wheelie and The Hubcaps? Why not, I'm ON that album! ;D

Oops! Did I type "Walk Through The BLAST FURNACE??"

There I go again. Some really deep-voiced chick used to call and request Jankowski. She was from Woodlawn IIRC. Had that kinda "meet me at Loading Gate 33, Bethlehem Steel" come-hither demeanor. :p

There's a lot of Freud going on in this thread.....

But wait! That's how some certain stations (not in this market, I hadn't moved here yet) were able to claim "More Music Every Hour!"

We're getting "stiffs" cross-pollinated with oldies and rarities.

Yes, Rox, a little bit of everything on this thread. Oldies, rarities, one-hit wonders, instrumentals, hockey fights. Kind of like the Super Flea on Walden. What I like about it is it's lots of fun, some good memories and I've learned about the true meaning of "Timothy" (I was 8 when that song came out and never really listened closely to the lyrics) Plus, it's a good place to escape in these depressing times. :)

Unless somebody brings up "All By Myself" by Eric Carmen, or "Alone Again, Naturally" by Gilbert O'Sullivan. Either of those would be enough to set Casey off on another tirade...

Just thinking about when Paul McCartney, when he wasn't tending to Junior's Farm, was messing around with Sally G! That happened, I believe, in 1974!
