Plus, it's a good place to escape in these depressing times. :)

Unless somebody brings up "All By Myself" by Eric Carmen, or "Alone Again, Naturally" by Gilbert O'Sullivan. Either of those would be enough to set Casey off on another tirade...

Yes, I remember the day I walked into the M&T branch and the manager asked what I wanted...and I replied "A loan again, naturally."

BA-BOOM! Leave your tips in the jar on the way out.

The ghost of Clip Smith haunts the board. Or is Stan Roberts writing Debaser's material? Hey, might wanna ask Savage if you can use his grey Fidelipac cart with the fat guy laugh...

"Look What They've Done to This Thread, Ma!"

Perfect segue (almost as if we scripted it) to add "Look What They've Done To My Song, Ma" by the New Seekers, who should not to be confused with the New Sneakers. And what of the OLD Seekers? Were they the just plain Seekers? Not to be confused with the Pozo Seco Singers, who sang "Time, Sweet Time" and "I Can Make It With You Baby." To think I was mildly buzzed when I started this thread. It seems to have come full circle. Everything old is new again.

Hey, this thread has great stuff in it! Obviously some talent out there!! Does the "mass audience" that so many are trying to "entertain" get it? NOPE, NOPE NOPE. Why? This stuff never hits the air. Why? (1) Dumb public (2) Not in the liner cards (3) Politically incorrect - one becomes another Imus media orgie (4) No one besides "insiders" really care. (5) Bad taste on the listeners part. Watch American Idol sometime (when there is a break in the video game or texting marathon). (6)Trip to the principals office for saying something you thought would work.
Just an opinion.

Is this a compliment? I'm thinkin' it is, but I've always had problems discerning subtleties, so you'll pardon my question. No doubt this thread is unique for many reasons: (1) Music binds people together, (2) Most of the posters here were/are/wanted to be on the radio playing the music, (3) Those who weren't on the air were listening to the music. This thread gives everybody a chance to "get into the act," trading funny one-liners, music information, doing shtick and posting songs that made some kind of connection, good, bad or just plain weird. There was a time when this kind of "personality posting" happened on the radio in just about every format: AOR, CHR, AC and MOR. I'm thinking this thread alone could be an interesting podcast.

Here's my offering for the thread: "Thank you Very Much" by the Scaffold, featuring Paul McCartney's brother. The previous post about McCartney fooling around with Sally G made me think of Paul's brother and his connection with this song. This thread works in very curious and mysterious ways (apologies to U2.)

"mohel"....

????

As Mel Brooks might speculate:

Keepers of the "tip" jar???

mohel

Hey-wasn't CLIP Smith a mohel (or moil as it's sometimes spelled)?

The Scaffold song (GOOD ONE!) also brings to mind Unit 4 + 2 (or Eddie Rambeau): "Concrete and Clay" (didn't they do the morning show on WYSL?).

mohel, moyle, moil - pick your fave...

Just think, a little misprint could have given "Martha & the Motels" an entirely different career... speaking of which, how about "Total Control", which stiffed in the US, but did chart well in France and Australia...

Speaking of McCartney, which I believe I did in a previous post, he topped the charts in the UK with a song that went nowhere in the US in 1975. Anybody remember Mull of Kin Tyre?

"Mull of Kin Tyre." Yep, I remember Capitol rep Carroll Hardy playing it for me at BBF on record-guy Tuesday. He had a hopeful look on his face.....I said, "ahhhh.....NO." (Perfect fodder for this thread, though.)

Re-reading the last two or three pages of posts, I get the distinct feeling that I'm listening to a montage of old airchecks.....complete with one-liners; the "loan again, naturally" line sounds like something you'd let fly right before the post. Or a spot. Or a drop.

Speaking/writing of that: the grey Fidelipac with the laff-track.....damn, it's not recueing. Hang on for a minute...

Partial compliment - to the court jesters of entertainment that are posting. It was mostly a synopsis of the state of radio today, which all seem aware. I spent 20 years in the biz - having fun, competing with non-sibling stations for listeners, and being an aircheck junkie. Now I've spent the last 15 years watching the demise of the "American Way" - music & fun on the radio (read as - neither is that good anymore) through not so rose colored glasses. I'm not bitter - at all, just found a different way to buy food (and drink).

Hey Bob,

What's that song by the Prophets? I know it's already been mentioned but I forgot the name of the song. I just found my 45 rpm adaptor and I wanna run down to Cavages or maybe Rudy's record mart and pick up a copy. I guess if they don't have it I can always settle for the Youtube record store. :))

How 'bout Kites are Fun - by The Free Design
or maybe diggin' way back in the stack o' wax
as we travel down instrumental boulevard
(Hit the fidelipac - 1959)
Petite Fleur - Chris Barber and his Jazz band.

Bill

...this thread would not be complete without including Senator Bobby and "Wild Thing" which peaked at #20 in 1967 ("....here's Teddy on the Okaryna") and as a bonus, the B-side with Bill Minkin doing Senator Everett Dirksen with the same song.

The real Senator Dirkson hit the top 40 the previous year with "Gallant Men"

In the spirit of the era Jack Parr would say, I kid you not. And I neglected to credit "The Hardly Worthit Players" who shared billing on the release. On the label of the 45 his name is misspelled "Menkin"
