And The Winner In Dothan Is ........

12+ M-S 6A-12 MID

1 WOOF FM UP
2 WDJR FM DOWN
3 WHTZ FM UP
4 WKMX FM DOWN

5 WDBT FM UP tie
5 WUSD FM UP tie

6 WTVY FM DOWN

Sad part is that three 100 kilo-watters (KMX,USD,TVY) in this market beaten by Montgomery(HTZ) station.

I would think that those stations WOULD lose out to a New York City station.....WHTZ..... ;D

Now WZHT, that's the station that I think is the one you are talking about......

I can't complain too much, as I am lisdexic sometimes also..... ;D

7 WJJN FM UP
8 WAGF FM UP

9 WESP FM UP tie
9 WIZB FM UP tie
9 WBBK FM UP tie

10 WOOF AM UP tie
10 WJRL FM DOWN tie

11 WLDA FM UP tie
11 WOAB FM DOWN tie
11 WYYX FM DOWN tie

Urban seems to play well in Dothan or Diary Weight tilt....WZHT, WJJN, WAGF, WBBK, ALL UP

So we seem to have information on the beaty pagent, what's up with the money demos? 25-34 and 25-54?

You would have thought that a company like Magic would have or could have done something to insure a better showing in the Spring numbers. When you only get two ratings a year you must make hay while the sun shines. It takes some real smart broadcasters to create such a slump for a group of stations that had such status for so many years. WOW!

Can't speak for the rest of the magic cluster but....I think WLDA will improve, if people react to the format in Dothan like they did in Montgomery it will take two to three books to catch on, however, we did have boards and t.v. in Montgomery. I don't know that magic did any of that in Dothan.
I'd like to see Magic develop a relationship with WTVY TV news... it would go a long way in terms of promotion of the stations in the magic cluster. After all they are just downstairs. I think Star will improve if they give it time and don't knee jerk react over one book.

In Montgomery the format was down a bit... christmas music cross town took us down but we'll be up next book... Money Demo 25 54, I had a 10 share last book... I that's a high number for a "Greatest Hits" format, I thought it would fall a bit, and it did. Over all the format is still strong with adults.

Skipper you are most likely correct. 12+ there were only two Magic stations to show improvement and that was WLDA from a.8 to a 2.1 and WBBK from 2.4 to 2.9. The WLDA format could be a really good winner with the money demos if they would promote it. I thought the Magic stations had some kind of agreement with WTVY TV for News and Weather? Any outside promotion would be an improvement. Have a great day.

Sticking to my resolution for 2010, congratulations to the entire market, no longer 192 but now 190! Congrats also to Skipper! for doing his best to keep the chin up. Congrats to ...... umm..............already said to WOOF earlier ...........

Sure is quiet on here. Gee, keeping resolutions is tough sometimes.

so, what is gonna take to get Magic back in the game.

That is the million(s) dollar question.

Bring in a "Nick Saban" of radio and lots of money?
Would the monetary return in the end justify it? Probably not.
"ricky" may have the answer.
Maybe Tragic should cut their losses. Dump the cluster to someone experienced in turnarounds at
a low enough price they could operate or have a fire sale and sell them off piecemeal.
A difficult and complex question at best.

Would it not be more important to hire somebody that has some radio experience to revamp the stations? Make formatic changes, alter air staff (what there is of it), upgrade the facilities and equipment, do some marketing, hire a good promotion person, and establish a solid sales team with strong selling ethics! There are only a few zilllion other things that go along with this but that would be a start. The stations have the ability to win but have been so mismanagerd there has been a total loss of respect from the listeners and from what I hear the bulk of any staff they have left. Can the ownership really have their heads buried that far in the sand that they cannot see what needs to be done? I would assume that ownership wants a quick turn around and any broadcast professional will tell you that is not possible at this moment. I honestly feel the statiions have legs and they can be up and running but it takes more than just a fresh coat of pain and some wiild promises to bring the audience and the advertising community back to the table. What Majic needs is a broadcast professional with the authority and a budget to fix it. I would certaiinly that Don McCoy understands this but not sure the train guys do! Who is calling the shots there anyway?

Exactly. The right leader, money, patience, and autonomy might just do it.

Will be hard to hide/disassociate the tainted "Tragic" name though.

those peopl have experience yes...but ALOT of egos also! Some one who is true to putting the audience First and foremost might be able to turn things around! Money is nice...but, Listener Loyalty is better!

Finally some good post on what could be done. Think all of you have the right ideas but not sure it will happen. That Lindholm guy has about as much programming and marketing savy as a trained monkey and he appears to be the guy in charge. One strong manager with the authority to make change could make it work but it would have to be a management person that came up through "programming". When a cluster is this far down the tube it will require a passonate radio person who has the talent to piece it back together. Once the programming is right the listeneres will return, maybe not in the numbers they had years ago but they will come back. Once that takes place the sales stuggle will begin. This is not rocket science work but requires a great deal of planning and a professional that knows how to make it happen. My feeling is they will not be willing to pay what it will take to make the cluster a market leader again. Any thoughts?
