And they say freestyle is dead....

The Forever Freestyle cd is #5 on billboard dance charts. A CD of rehash freestyle music that you can find on other compilations the only difference being that this one is being advertised on tv.

Freestyle is far from Dead at our show in south jersey a freestyle artist got one of the biggest pops plus his new single is one of the most requested songs

I saw that CD one night at Wal-Mart and thought it was just one of the niche offerings. Then it jumped up to the front rack the next week, and I realized "holy crap! This thing's selling!" Glad to see the genre is still alive and kicking!

At Rhythm 105 we get SIGNIFICANTLY more requests for freestyle than any other type of dance music.
Also be on the lookout for another series of "Freestyle Explosion" concerts at major (10,000-20,000 seat) arenas. Some cities I've heard included are Sacramento, San Jose, Phoenix, Anaheim (Los Angeles), San Diego, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Fresno, and Bakersfield. There have been some big crowds at these concerts in the past 2 years they have been running them, sometimes selling more seats than concerts by today's top 40/rock/CHR/CHR-Rhythmic artists.

We should be thanking stations such as KTU-NY, Jammin 94.1-San Antonio, Energy 92.7-Phoenix and others for keeping it alive.

Beware the Forever Freestyle CD at the stores is a single CD, but the TV commercial advert showns a 2 CD set. I'd go for the 2 CD set!!

PS. I also seen a TV ad for a "Pulse Platinum Edition 2 CD set. Those are good jams, too!!

Freestyle is alive because of the hearts of the fans of freestyle across the nation. Promoters like Sal Abitello of Fever Records have been having 2 Major Freestyle shows a year in NYC where where they get 4000 fans in to the Copacabana night club.

freestyle is the sh*t!!!!! Stevie B, Korel, Spanish Fly, Jayda - if anyone here implements freestyle in the mixshow with currents pm me and let's trade mixes!

AMEN!

While the mainstream believes it "died" in the early 90s, freestyle continued on in many places across the US.

When I lived in Miami in the mid-90s freestyle was played on radio and in nightclubs. The concerts would always be jam-packed.

Freestyle was still alive and well in Miami when I left in 2000. I have no doubt it still is, considering that outside of New York, Miami was probably the largest freestyle market in the country.

Josh:

As a matter of fact, it was (and still is) popular after you left.

When I made frequent trips to FTL a few years ago, 93.1 FM (then WTMI) flipped to Party 93.1 (WPYM). They would play freestyle in rotation. There was also an album released titled A Night At Casanovas Vol. I that was plugged constantly on 93.1.

Alas, the party ended when they flipped 93.1 to rock.

Yes, the death of Party was sad... especially given their decline leading up to the flip to rock. I recall listening online over most of Party's run, and freestyle was definitely a key sub-genre on the station.

Now if we could just get Power to bring dance back into their playlists instead of selectively adding tracks that have been proven outright. Freestyle used to be at least a quarter of their mixes, both at clubs and in the studio.
