And what about WHDH?

I know there has been talk quite some time and a lot of promotion for the Ellen DeGeneres Show moving from 9 am to 4 pm on WCVB. I also remember hearing that Regis & Kelly will be moving from WHDH to WCVB. However, I have not heard much promotion about this. I'm even more curious as to what is going to happen with the 9am hour on WHDH. Will they now be broadcasting the 3rd hour of the Today show live?

Nope. Several months ago they announced the 9am newscast.

I'm surprised that NBC would even let them do that. I remember a few years ago they almost didn't air the Jay Leno show at 10 PM, but NBC forced them to air it. I know of several NBC affiliates that have a contract with Live, but one would think that once they gave up the rights to that show, they would be forced to air the 3rd hour of the Today show live. And who would even watch thew news at 9 AM?

Maybe WHDH has a "We were right about Jay Leno bombing in primetime" clause in their agreemnet, that allows them to run 9 AM news, and the final two hours of "Today" on tape delay.

Generally, stations are not required to carry the 3rd and 4th hours of Today live. Lots of stations delay the 3rd and/or 4th hours of Today.
