Andelman Bros. Phantom Gourmet weekly on WTKK

Herald:
http://business.bostonherald.com/businessNews/view.bg?articleid=190304

"The Phantom Gourmet crew will be “grillin’ and chillin”’ this June on Boston’s City Hall Plaza, but first will take to the airwaves for a new weekly radio show on WTKK (96.9 FM)."

The Phantom Gourmet BBQ Beach Party will be held June 22-24.

"The Phantom Gourmet’s new live radio show, which debuts April 7, will air Saturdays from 5-7 p.m. with Michael and Dan Andelman joining their brother (Dave)." The fest will be broadcast on both Ch 38 and WTKK.

That is just plain sad. Are they still selling gift certificates to the places they 'review' too? ::)

so there will be plenty of reviews of Fuddruckahs and the Kowloooooooon, no dobut.. and something in my gut tells me Eddie owns a piece of those places. That's my opinion, at least.

TV Diner is a much better show.

The show will not last. Cant show good food on the radio . This show is only made for T.V. and Food Events, not for the radio ,and I Love the Phatom Gourmet on T.V. 38 .

But Pat Whitley's restaurant review show has lasted years on WRKO and various other stations. Gene Burns
used to do "dining around with.." shows on 'RKO and I think he still does one (or a show about wine) out on
KGO in San Fran.

you can't necessarily show good food but you can talk about it. Whitley's show allegedly started when he
was doing a show and couldn't get any calls on a hot summer day, then someone mentioned eating at
Weylu's or something and it started conversation about restaurants.

Part of the deal when they went from NECN to TV38 was the promotional tie in with WBZ radio, where WBZ would run reviews and promote the show on thier sister station. Since TTK is Greater Media and not CBS I wonder if the Andelmen boys are short timers on 1030. I'm sure TV38 will continue to sell them the air time on the TV side, but I suspect the AM days are numbered

Is it true or just an urban myth, that Eddie actually shallowed one of his sons whole during a hot dog safari because he was riding dad's coat-tails too close?

Sad?
Maybe to you, but I enjoyed watching TPG on Channel 38.

What's "sad" about it?

I was wondering the same thing about WBZ, now that they are also on a competing radio station (sorta, if you think WTKK is competition for WBZ radio)

I have mixed feelings on TPG on TV 38...

On one hand, I enjoy watching because the show is well packaged, entertaining and the food looks yummy

On the OTHER hand, there is DEFINITELY some payola and back room deals going on...

It seems that some of the eateries are on that show every other week, regardless of the theme...

The Summer Shack, Kowloon, Carl's, Wholly Cannolli to name just a few... They seem to work in some places on to EVERY show, no matter what type of food they are featuring...

Example: "Today on TPG, Phantom reviews the BEST steak houses in Boston... and we start off with.. WHOLLY CANNOLLI!!!" LOL OK, maybe an exageration there, but you get the point... actually on the STEAKHOUSE show they DID feature Carl's Subs in Waltham that serve... steak & cheese sandwiches. I mean, come ON... ::)

And you can just bet that when The Andelmans dine out at any of these restaurants the "Phantom" (haha, Good one Eddie) reviews... they don't pay a DIME...

That restaurant review book that they came out with a year or two ago... saw it at my local supermarket... it was the size of a paperback... I picked it up, it was hot to the touch, reason: flipped it over, $30 BUCKS!!! Gheesh, talk about being plain greedy.

WITH ALL THAT being said, it is a decent show. The food looks good! ;)

Hmmm. A show that reviews food selling gift cards to eat that same food. Do you think Ronald McDonald would give you an honest opinion about trans fats? As great as he appears to be at football, would the Burger King give you an honest opinion about char-broiled red meat? Is the Dairy Queen going to tell you if her ice cream tastes like plastic?

Wake up and smell the coffee, brought to us by the fab. folks at Dunkin Donut. That you would fall for the Andelman's transparent scam is sad. However, if you have some disposable income laying around, I do have some land next to the Kawloon I'd like to talk to you about... ::)

I don't have a problem with Eddie wanting to help his kids. I remember one of them was on 'EEI for awhile and it was awful radio. I don't get the popularity of Phantom and the writing on the show is terrible.

Has anyone ever heard the Phantom review Kowloon, the chief sponsor when they were on WBZ?

Raccoon, is it true that Whitley pays the station and then pockets the money from advertisers after he's paid the bills? Excuse the ignorance but is that what is meant by brokered?

Ya think? :D

... why should the silent partners in the businesses have to pay for their food. As I said in an earlier post, I have a feeling the Andelmans have an ownership stake in some of those restaurants.
