ANDERSON COOPER'S NEW SHOW KINDA BLAND

Instead of starting off with a bang, his show seems to be running on two wheels.
I've seen this in other talk shows from the past and if he doesn't get a fire lit it
very soon, he could join the ranks of many other talk shows that didn't make it.

The problem I see with him is that he's at his best outside the studio. When he's in a controlled environment reading a prepared script, he's no better than anyone else. What makes him sizzle is when he has to think on his feet and people are shooting at him. That's not going to happen in this kind of show, unless they think a little outside the studio box.

And you are exactly right. When he is reacting to 5 different things at once he is in top
form and most entertaining, but when he is just talking about one subject as he sips
coffee he seems to be no better than a male version of Rachel Ray.

But this might be good enough to have moderate success on daytime television.

Daytime is very competitive. This is a high budget show done in NYC at a very expensive studio. Moderate success won't pay the bills.

I actually enjoy what I've seen of his daytime talk show. I recorded the second episode with Kathy Griffin and Snooki and it seemed like it had potential. Maybe he needs a co-host, things seemed a little dry when Kathy wasn't around. Not saying Kathy should be the co-host though...

Does this article imply that "Anderson" beat or tied "The View"? If Whoopi & Friends wasn't in the top 5, which gets down to a 1.3 rating, and "Anderson" was at 1.1, that seems likely unless Neilsen categorizes it in some other way.

I don't think The View is syndicated, I think they were publishing just syndicated numbers.

I thought perhaps the same thing, but CBS' "The Talk" was on the list.

The View is currently an ABC show. There was talk of taking it to syndication (either creating a syndicated version of the network show to run along side the network show, or remove the show from the network & have it go to first run syndication), but those plans were shelved. I do remember some ABC affiliates did not want it to go to syndication, because it meant that they would actually have to buy the rights to the show instead of the network providing it for them. In Chicago, Anderson Cooper's talk show is on at 11am & 2pm on WFLD (Fox). He has a lot of competition on the other stations with WGN-TV having Live with Regis & Kelly (not sure who's replacing Regis for the new season), because WLS-TV (ABC) is the only ABC O&O that refuses to clear the 9am timeslot in order to carry their own local talk show Windy City Live (before that, was Oprah, & before that AM Chicago, another local talk show that had several hosts over it's entire time, but was most successful with Oprah hosting it from 1984 - 1986). There's also Rachel Ray on at 10am on WGN-TV (CW), Maury Povich on WGN-TV (CW) at 1pm, Jerry Springer on WCIU 26.1 at 11am & 6pm on WCIU 26.2 (U Too), Steve Wilkos on WCIU 26.1 at 10am & WCIU 26.2 (U Too) at 5pm, Dr Phil on WCIU 26.1 at 9am & WBBM-TV (CBS) at 3pm (the only market with dual affiliation), Dr Oz at 3 & 4pm on WFLD (Fox), & The Dr's on WCIU 26.1 at 5pm & 11pm on WCIU 26.2 (U Too) at 11pm.

So Anderson has some veteran shows he's got to go up against, but Dr Drew & Bill Cunningham also have new talk shows as well. For now, Bill Cunningham's talk show will only be on Tribune owned stations, since Tribune exited the syndication business, until they can get a syndicator to market the show outside of their O&O stations. Dr Drew's Life Changeovers will be a CW Daytime show instead of a syndicated show.

I see it now -- some kind of a reality-based talk show based on "South Park" where Anderson Cooper is "Kenny" ("Andie") and the audience members are divided into four sections each with their own color of paintballs and a paintball gun. While "Andie" attempts to interview a guest each section "kills" Anderson Cooper with the most paintball of one color are collectively given some kind of prize. At the end of the season, Rosie O'Donnell as "Cartman" joins the audience for some kind of season grand finale round.

Not only that but I have to agree with the poster who said that Anderson is at his best when he's OUTSIDE the studio. Ed Schultz is the same way. He draws HUGE crowds when he takes to the road

Where in NYC is the studio for his show? Perhaps they could arrange to do some of it outside among the people. Afterall, that's what makes the TODAY show so popular on NBC (In fact, that show SELLS NYC & does wonders for its economy !!! )

Cheers & 73 :D
