Andrew Dehydrator repair

The compressor and most of the valves are commercial parts, buy a rebuild kit or new from Grainger. Otherwise ship it back to them.

I have a 1930C that has a dead motor. Any idea what a repair might run? The GE model number on the motor's sticker does not appear anywhere. I was debating taking the motor to a motor repair place. Also, regarding the dessicant. Can it be baked and renewed?

I had a friend that would bake the desiccant until the color changed. can we do this natural like sun tea? My problem would be I would leave it out and it would rain.

I bake it and the color renews fine...stick on a pizza pan covered with aluminum foil so it's easier to put back in the canister. I figured out long ago that getting the stuff picked directly from a pizza pan is far from a pleasant process.

The desiccant in the 1930 is only used as an indicator, not to remove moisture. Moisture is removed by molecular sieves in the two towers. There are valves that run air through one tower to deliver to the output while running air reverse through the other tower to purge it of excess moisture. The relationship between these towers changes periodically.

While the desiccant can be baked to remove the moisture a few times you shouldn't need to do this if the 1930 is operating properly. One thing that can happen is the timer that changes the function of the towers can fail or one of the valves controlling the airflow can fail and excess moisture will appear at the output. After a long periods of use the molecular sieves will crumble. If you can hear the valves change every few minutes of run time and the desiccant doesn't look pink, you should be ok.
