I'm glad you mentioned Closing Central. It is by far the dumbest thing I've ever heard of before. Even to spend a half of a minute verbally announcing the "latest closings" is more than a waste of time. I've noticed that the LATEST closings can be up to a half hour OLD, if you really pay attention to the scrolls at the bottom of the screen. Sometimes they will try to make generalizations where certain districts are closed, where certain schools are delayed by region. But it's also useless, since you can go 10 miles in almost any direction of Connecticut and possibly find different weather conditions, some neighboring school districts closed, others delayed, etc. Not to mention that it's up to the respective local Superintendants to call the day or not, and that is a whole other story, it's hillarious to see how sporadic some of these closings are.
The TV station scrolls have replaced the old-fashioned local radio announcements for most people today. Why NBC30 wastes their time grouping the scrolls every 10 minutes and having them read 5 or 6 at a time, is beyond me. It's totally annoying, useless, and ineffective, UNLESS the viewer is blind, and in that case, I suppose the station is performing a community service.
As far as Andrew Pergham, he doesn't seem too bad. Once in a while, he'll be on 99.1 PLR's "Chaz & AJ In The Morning". And they have a good time, joking around together, poking fun at each other, etc., just like when any of the other CT TV news reporters stop by.
But you're right about Closing Central. Anyone who they put in that position is going to annoy me. The station should find another way to hype winter storms. It would actually be more entertaining by just sticking someone outside with a measuring stick, and checking on the accumulations with a live shot every ten minues.
