Android Streaming Apps

I'm looking for someone to author an Android app for our web site that will allow the user to listen to our web stream on their phone. We already have an iphone app, but I really don't want to use the same people to do this one. (It was not a great experience).

I suppose I could do it myself, since Google has their free "App Inventor," but I'm not sure I want to take a stab at it. There are only so many hours in the day. Any suggestions or recommendations?

No need to do it yourself. Someone is already doing it for you. Tune In Radio.com.

How does Tune In get around copyrights? Is it because it's only a "directory" service that isn't actually streaming anything and merely a link to a station's stream?

I'm surprised more stations aren't sending them cease and desists because they want people to use their apps, which have all of the ancillary data they programmed in.

That seems a bit more generic than I'm looking for. I need an app that takes you directly to our web stream with out giving the user a choice of stations. Did I miss something?

I found we are listed on Tune In Radio, and we even came up as a local station when I went to the site. I guess they are sorting by IP address locations. It is a neat application though. I'll put it on my phone...

Still. I'm sure there are custom app writers out there...

Probably. TheStreamCenter.com directory works in a similar fashion (by state).

CBS just did, at least on smartphones and Roku - their website calls the Radio.com player, so CBS stations on TuneIn are OK on a PC. Clear Channel never allowed their stations on TuneIn or its predecessor RadioTime.

Unless you are WGN or one of the other biggies, or want to add other value to the app, I don't understand why you would want or need to do that. TuneIn.com is where most folks look for internet radio on smartphones (other than CBS and CC stations, of course).

It is mostly because our listeners have asked for a specific app that they can download from our web site. We have one for the iphone, but need one for the Android platform.

Rock, I emailed them and they emailed me with some more questions. Hoping to hear back from them.

I went through AppInventor. We could figure out Android on our own with that.

Scanned through some C (#, I think) code to see how hard Apple would be and that looked a little more complex.

At any rate, you need your shoutcast server setup first to test, so I am doing that today.
