Andy Griffith

I was shocked to see how Andy Griffith has aged as he appears in a series of commercials promoting Obamacare.

Okay granted the guy is in his 80s, but hell he looks like he's one step away from the cemetery. Has he been ill lately?

I believe Griffith has had some health problems over the years, including a bout with Guillain-Barré syndrome in the 1980s, which caused leg paralysis for a period of time. He did Matlock a few years later, after he recovered.

The man is 84, and some people age better than others.

I'm surprised he hasn't.

I still remember my dad bringing home a 45 of Griffiths' "What It Was....Football".

That was in 1953.

Are you sure the man is only 84? That would mean he was 34 when the Andy Griffith Show began in 1960. Thought he was a few years older than that.

guess I was wrong. Too bad, as he looks older than his age, but I'm glad he's still around. Not too many of his generation of TV actors that still are.

He has had some good character roles in films the last few years and done very well in them. Curious that Ron Howard hasn't cast him in anything.

According to a couple of online sources, he was born in 1926, which would make him 84, and yes - 34 when The Andy Griffith Show began in 1960. Also - he was born in Mt. Airy, North Carolina. And I thought it was Mt. Pilot. ;D

I know by the smiley that you meant that as a joke, but as
I'm sure most of you know, there is a Pilot Mountain near
Mt. Airy, both a town and an actual, unusually-shaped mountain.
If you're ever in North Carolina take U.S. 52 north out of Winston-
Salem about 30 miles and you can't miss it. Just a few miles north
of that you'll hit the Andy Griffith Parkway.

Actually, I did NOT know that. Thanks. I've never been to North Carolina before but would love to visit some time.

Griffith did a local Cleveland Movie Show..The early days of Hoolihan and Big Chuck on WJW-TV 8..In February 1967..

Here's a skit in which Griffith plays a country fellow looking for his big break..In this he says he is 40..

Doesnt look like much here, but he was promoting the CBS special with Don Knotts and Tennessee Ernie Ford the following Tuesday..(Andy Griffith Uptown-Downtown Show)

Nice post! Wish I could find a link to that special.

Well, whether you agree or disagree with his politics, it will be a sad day when the high Sheriff of Mayberry passes away. IMHO, The Andy Griffith Show was the greatest show on television ever. My friends and I still quote lines from it even though we now watch excellent contemporary shows like "Modern Family" etc. Thank God, we've got all those episodes "in the can" and can visit anytime we feel like. In today's world, it's a nice respite and Andy Griffith had a huge part in it unfolding the way it did. Thank you, Andy.

Amen to that.

BTW, there are two roles Andy played that I'm particularly partial to: one is Lonesome Rhodes in "A Face In The Crowd," the other is the villain in the ABC Movie Of The Week "Pray For The Wildcats," which I wish some movie channel would show. Neither fits the Andy Taylor/Ben Matlock image, but they show his range as an actor.

I hope we haven't become so politicized in this country that people suddenly decided to dislike an iconic and talented actor because it turns out he's (gasp!) ...a liberal.

I'm more or less a liberal, and I like Tom Selleck, Bruce Willis and Jon Voight. They're actors, not my Congressmen, or my friends.

People seriously need to lighten up.

Well, not actors, but trying telling that to the Dixie Chicks.

I'm afraid your worst fears have already come true.

I consider myself conservative..I may not agree with what Andy believes on the health issue, but we tend to forget that actors, singers, etc..are private citizens too
