Angela Lansbury, Screen and Broadway Icon, Dead at 96

And Mrs. Potts in "Beauty and the Beast".

I started watching "Murder She Wrote" shortly before it was cancelled. I wished I had watched more of them. I didn't think I could enjoy a murder mystery.

What an amazing lady, and what a sad loss to the world of TV, film, and theatre. May she forever RIP.

Lansbury was actually somewhat progressive for the time, in the way she portrayed Jessica Fletcher on Murder She Wrote. While women were starting to take stronger positions in the 1980s, more women were working in professional roles and becoming involved in political issues and offices, it certainly wasn't at the level of modern-day feminism. Yet, Lansbury made the quote below during an interview in 2000:
The series ran for 12 seasons and made Lansbury a household name. She said that playing Jessica Fletcher, the mystery novelist who solved a murder every week, embodied all she wanted in a female role. "She was valiant and liberal and athletic and all kinds of good stuff that women are of a certain age and are not given credit for."

The good thing is that, via modern-day streaming services you can watch all the episodes you want, whenever you want to view them. They also air on the Hallmark Movie Channel if your cable system offers it.

I don't pay extra for all those channels and have been reluctant to pay for streaming so far.
