oasis just purchased wbtu and wshy from artistic. place your bets here.

love it. you know tha fuinny thing that they told everyone in the company they were buying a signal most likely wjfx and then its revealed that the tables turned.

this is good fort wayne

art likes college towns it's obvious with ownership in lafayette, south bend, and bloomington. maybe it's the beautiful college women. maybe it's all the disposable income. did he ever kick broadcast tires in muncie? fort wayne isn't a college town. it's a town with colleges.

University towns are lucrative (sp?) when you are the flagship for universities' sports teams. He's got the big three in the state.

Oasis Adds Two In Ft. Wayne
ALL ACCESS hears that RUSS OASIS' FORT WAYNE RADIO CORP. is buying Country WBTU and Oldies WSHY (SUNNY 106)/FT. WAYNE from ARTISTIC MEDIA PARTNERS for an undisclosed price. MICHAEL BERGNER is serving as broker for the ... more

Good luck to Russ. I haven't always agreed with his methods but he knows what he's doing and his stations turn out to be successful. Personally, I hope that he turns WSHY back into a CHR/Pop (a REAL CHR/POP) and shows Fort Wayne how CHR radio is supposed to be done.

Russ will give the stations some much needed TLC and make them great once again.

I would look for the country format to stay about the same - except he may actually take it live again - after he cleans house with the remainder of the bad seeds that are still there...

As far as Sunny goes - don't you think this would be an excellent place for him to put a classic hits station. Marketed well (which is something Rock 104 never got), would give it a big boost immediately and make it a viable competitor to WFWI.

could he make 106.3 into something like jack? i don't think he would put a top 40 up as that might closely parallel his hot 107.9.

I think KTU in Indy has a lot of the characteristics of a jack format without the high burnout songs... Plus that station is a little pea-shooter taking a serious chunk out of the WFBQ audience..... I'd put this one down as a definate maybe.

WKLU a little pea shooter?? 4KW @ 110 meters HAAT inside of Marion county hardly qualifies as a pea shooter. Looking at Radio-Locator.com, WKLU covers more of Marion county than Radio One's WTLC and Cumulus' WWFT. Yet no one calls them pea shooters. WKLU deserves credit for maximizing it's signal and for sucessfully producing the radio version of "the little engine that could".
