Angotti Sr

By reading your responses, I note that my point is made. And at the end of the day, we must all remember....Who is a partner in a group that owns some ten radio stations or so? You? Me? the guy at the gas station? Nope, Art Angotti. Agree or disagree all you want......when it comes to business decisions, they are his to make and he does them pretty well.

Would like to thank you, Mr. Angotti, for stopping by Radio-Info.

BTW- a "smart" business move? only smart moves AMP has ever made is in aquiring property....nothing "smart" about anything done past that point. If you have some actual success story (ratings or billing wise) from any of their properties...I would love to hear them....

It would be wonderful if someone else could buy AMP, and the ratings and sales go up, I can just see Art standing there going "What's Up With That" his stations will never be what they use to be...he doesn't know people or radio..or how to be sucessful with either... o' well life goes on. :'(

The sad part is there are at least two generations of the same family doing the same thing. (SR/JR) We have some time to put up with this, my best guess. Let's hope the grandkids are smart enough to take things in a better direction.

Rumor has it that Amp is for sale. Seems like the investers are not making money and they may be asking Angotti the Great to step down. Looks like his last round of fireings and pay cuts didnt work to cover his a** this time. Smells like a court action to me. How much money does he have?

U guys are way off base. Really AMP is looking to expand.
Any of U for sale?

We've been over this one pretty thoroughly:

AMP bought a bunch of stations.
They are all under-performing to some degree.
They can't keep an airstaff (and sometimes a format) in tact for more than 6 months to a year.

Anybody who's actually worked for AMP in the last 20 years stops by here to slag them completely.

I'm finding less and less that ANYBODY's "way off base" about.

If they are expanding, they are destroying themselves in the process.

:(

I hear Art stares at pictures of the Dickey brothers and Lowry Mays during "intimate moments" with himself.

Why would it surprise anyone for him to make the same mistakes?

Well... L.M. has 448 stations for sale... If Art cares to take a break :D :D :D

I'm sorry! I don't know the man personally--other than the drubbing he takes here... 'Just couldn't pass that one by though, N_D :-[

Angotti gets creamed anywhere there is an objective ratings service (like Arbitron). He does fine in unrated markets where they can scam the advertisers into believing that their stations are well listened to, however, in markets (like Fort Wayne) where there is an actual report card, the get annihilated. 2 years from now, Angotti will be out of radio. It's also not right to compare him to CC and Cumulus. I believe that Angotti LIKES radio and wants to do the right thing for it, he just doesn't know what to do or how to do it. In CC's case, they don't care about radio. They just want to be financial pigs at the feeding trough.

Does AMP even buy Arbitron books in FW and SB? I doubt it.

am radio

He may not subscribe to ARB, but the agencies do and when they see how poorly his stations do, they don't buy them.

I'm banking that Angotti does buy Arbitron in South Bend and Fort Wayne. Otherwise, "the public" wouldn't be able to comment on how poorly he's doing in these markets because they wouldn't be able to see the 12+ breakdowns on R&R online, All Access, etc.

As far as AMP's other markets go, Lafayette is embargoed because of WGLM, and Bloomington isn't an Arbitron rated market.

The McDonald's comparison to radio is a valid one up to a point; anybody can compete with the golden arches. The obstacles for opening a hamburger stand include start up cost, operating capital, zoning laws, health codes and a few other annoyances. The marketplace is an even playing field with little stopping anyone from competing with McDonald's.

Radio doesn't have that advantage. Because of a scarce resource called frequency allocation entry is very limited. It is possible to purchase the equipment and hire the staff. But if you operate the radio station without a license, the FCC will shut it down and legal problems will ensue.

Mr. Angotti has every right to own his radio stations. But he and others get away with being jerks because there are only so many frequencies available. Today's owners, like Angotti, are willing to pay the inflated price for noting more than a piece of paper issued by our government for permission to operate within parameters of a broadcast license. Beyond that, it's smoke and mirrors.

Maybe somebody can tell me if Mr. Angotti has ever had a notion or interest of owning a station outside of the United States? Or would he?

The originator of this thread (little ol me) says that we must understand art angotti. Recent trades indicate that amp, the angotti's are looking for managers in Ft Wayne, South Bend and Lafayette. That is three of their four markets. Maybe little ol me can shed light on this great management philosophy of how not having managers in 75% of the markets is good business and how that makes money (lots of it, in his words) for his stockholders. It seems that maybe that management technique simply keeps his son in a job. Crisis management.
