Anita's Back!

Inqlings reports that Anita Gevinson of WYSP's "Ask Anita" midday fame returns to Philadelphia the week of August 29 to September 2 to fill in afternoons on WMGK while Andre Gardner fills in mornings. Will she take calls on the air?

After YSP, I believe she took the show to WCAU-AM but as I remember it didn't really fit with more conventional talk shows - anyone else remember her show on WCAU? Was that at the same time they had Frank Rizzo in afternoons?

Anita's show was ahead of its time. And you're right - it didn't fit in with the majority of talk shows of the time, i.e. the tired rantings of eighty year-old right-wing extremists. Come to think of it, she still doesn't fit in...

Who Cares, Greater Media is selling her as a Philly radio legend... well not really. She was a jock when Philly rock radio was big. All the dj's were hanging out with musicians, she was just giving them a little more.. And she has no problem exploiting them even before they are dead. The Warren Zevon story in the city paper I thought was in very bad taste. She is now LA trash which is the farthest from the Philly audience. I am sure there is more to this then just a week stint. (Why would it be in all the trades) I for one see (another) high priced, poor calculated mistake on greater media's end. She is an opportunist. A has been/ never really was.. trying to get back some of her 15 minutes at any cost.

Don't hold back Doc!! How do you really feel? :) I was never a big "Ask Anita" fan either - Debbi Calton is my favorite female rock-jock, and thats not going to change anytime soon. Anita actually went to Zevon's memorial service with Alan Hunter, original Mtv V.J. I don't think she realizes her 15 minutes were
up.

At least the "old" 1210 had hosts capable of presenting a variety of viewpoints and not building every show around blaming one side for all that's wrong in the world. Even Frank Rizzo was more balanced and respectful of those whose views differed than the current state of talk radio, be it right or left wing.

And then there was the fact that years ago you could turn to 1210 and actually hear discussions of Philadelphia topics, too.

Just dug through some old Inqy articles - Anita joined WCAU on August 4, 1986, a year after being let go from WYSP's 1985 "Labor Day Massacre". She replaced psycologist Maxine Schnall and Ron Eisenburg, let go without notice. Anita did general talk 9-noon and "Ask Anita" 12-1pm. She was followed by another new show, medical talk with Dr. Marty Weisberg 1-3pm. So this was in the time period they moved away from general talk to specialty type shows.
