Anita's First Day in D.C.

Philly to Washington? Hmm. Possibly sitting out a Ch6 non-compete before replacing Alycia Lane? just typing out loud.

Anita's DC move was known long before Alicia had her incident in New York.

It's a good chance for her to anchor full time in the evening...something that didn't look to be on the horizon here, so a nice step up. Hope she does well and enjoys it.

Since when is moving from Philadelphia to Washington a step down? Especially when you've got a better gig there.

For the casual viewer, Washington's newscasts look more "big market" than Philly's anyhow. And, the national network folks watch those local newscasts. They only see ours when the traffic is too heavy on the NJ Turnpike and they pull off at a Howard Johnsons somewhere in southern NJ to wait it out. Thus, the potential for growth is greater in the Nation's Capital.

Although it was recently knocked down a peg by Atlanta, Washington is still a growing market while Philadelphia is stagnant. If not for Baltimore being its own market (taking some of DC's N and NE suburbs with it), Washington would be in the top 5.

Didn't suggest anything other than a geographical move out of Philly MArket. The Southern PA, VA and MD areas make for some nice areas to live.

But have you seen Philly lately? And I don't mean the cutaway shots in "Cold Case" on TV. Center City is awash in new skyscrapers and construction.

Yes, it is true that there is a lot of new growth in Center City. There are a number of corporations headquartered in the area and it's the most affordable of the big northeast corridor cities. So, building does continue. But, the overall metro area population is stagnant. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad gig. Heck, it's a top 10 market and any of them (except perhaps Detroit - a market which continues to sink like a lead ingot) is a great place for TV talent to be.

I guess my point was that Washington is growing much more quickly and, thanks to exposure, is a TV market that can be a great springboard to success. A lot of very important people are located in that area who watch the local news each day. Not unlike New York or LA.

It just seemed that there was a general feeling that Anita Brikman had compromised herself in some way to make her move to DC when, it reality, it was probably a very nice promotion.
