ANKARLO/Bennett brawl

Apparently KLIF management has a change of heart. "The Best of Ankarlo" was supposed to run for the rest of the year but apparently Dan Bennett and Ankarlo got into it bigtime. People in the KLIF hallway said it was not a pretty sight.

Reminds me of when the the Former KLIF PD got into it with Randy Kabrich in Philly several years ago.

The big Egos continue to battle at KLIF!

Poor little Ankarlo claims he never reads the radio boards. Suuuuuure Darrel ;)

Dan Bennett is an idiot, he keeps the Bone on the air and hires a talk radio morning show from Houston. What's wrong with this picture??

I used to think Dan was a really good guy. Do you think he can survive Cumulus? There's only room for the Dickeys' egos at that corporation. ;D

Its alot like nero playing the violin at the fall of rome, His empire is crumbling and all he can do is stroke his own...ego. I have a feeling Dan will be out sooner or later.

Hopefully if Dan Bennett says "I invented the Ticket" to the unemployment line, someone in line will know that the station was owned by two previous broadcast groups before Susquehanna Dan got his hands on it.

I thought old grey wolf rhyner invented the format.....Here again Dan taking credit where it isnt due...

Darrell has never (since the time he told management of his decision to move to Phoenix) been committed to be on the air until the end of the year. Darrell didn't/wouldn't commit to that and management didn't ask. As I hear ... Darrell isn't even in Dallas, so hate to screw up a terrific RUMOR, but a fight/blow up, whatever just didn't happen. Most importanty (listen up here EYE) - Dan has never said he invented The Ticket. Has he (along with two excellent program directors) kept the Ticket guys there and happy to be there? Yup. That's his job and obviously he has done that part very well. They are still there. Right? Speaking to facts, Eye, you are NOT a consultant for The Ticket. That is only in your dreams. Oh, you were at one time and are not now, so make your listing past tense or you are as guilty of trying to grab onto the coattails of the wildly successful Ticket as you were quick to jump on the bash Bennett bandwagon. Your snipe is unprofessional. You should know better and have refrained ... unless Bennett tells you directly that he invented The Ticket you know better than to assume it is gospel. I'm ashamed of you.

I return you back to bashing whatever your radio manager/personality/company du jour is!

I'll chime in again when the rumors get downright ugly and false again.

Ladies and gentlemen I present to you Dan Bennett!<cues theme from Duddley DoRight>

Klifhanger - you are indeed witty, but wrong nonetheless!

You're wrong. I said "Best of". I never claimed Darrell wanted to be there live until the end of the year. Wake up!

Dan and Ankarlo DID go at it last week. Are you there everywhere every minute of the day? Yes i know he's in Phoenix and will be back next week but Bennet wanted to run Best Of ankarlo through the end of the year until the ------ hit the fan. I must confess Ankarlo got out just in time.

Bennet and others are telling people just to hang in there, things will get better while he and his chumps quietly lower the life boats from the TITANIC. :D

Is Jim Quirk still there? He fits right in with Cumulus's sleazy politics.

I'm not so sure there are any BEST OF ANKARLO tapes to run......

I call bullsh*t all over this thread.

As anybody that has actually worked there can tell you, the logger system only keeps a couple of weeks worth of audio. And they don't save it all to DAT or CD. So there aren't any 'best of' tapes to play. (Not to mention that "best of ankarlo" is an oxymoron to start with...)

#2, why would Bennett or the new PD WANT to run the best of Ankarlo? To remind people of an old host? What possible purpose could that serve? To remind the Ankarlo fans of something that's gone? It's certainly not going to recycle listeners...(And from what I've seen of the Ticket's "top 10" ratings they've stopped the sudden departure the Ticket used to have at 7pm. There's still not as many people as they have during the day, but playing stuff from earlier in the day has them a better audience than they ever had with Hunter, Blanford, Followell, Sturm, etc...
A best of show makes sense when a host is on vacation and you need to run SOMETHING. Or at nights or weekends when it can be used basically as a promo for teh live show...But sorry, until this is sourced, I'm not buying that Bennett wanted to run the best of ankarlo.

That's not really fair to the Eye, is it? I mean he was consultant. So what if it was for little more than ayear or so. And so what if it was more than a decade ago.
And after all, he did such a fine fine job as a consultant. I mean, I know from my viewpoint there's no better way to get criticism than via fax. It's such a warm personal gesture when you get a fax telling you how screwed up you are.

And let's remember, this is the consultant that wanted to fire the Hardline. You know, the guys that are now #2 with Men 25-54 (their target demo)...Talk about brilliant consulting moves. That's one of those little known stories. The "eye" wanted the Hardline fired. And it was all going to hinge on the next ratings book. And as he bitched in fax after fax to the PD and owner about how they weren't doing things 'right" (i.e. his way) the listeners propelled them to a phenomenal book.

From what i heard..Darrel suggested it to Bennett because he claims he will be at KLIF on and off through dec

CarterTimm - nope. Didn't sit in any of those meetings. Why can't a guy change his mind? How many times in life (much less radio) do you think something isn't a good idea at the time, but makes sense later? So Bennett is human? You want to fault him for that too?

Your bitterness will eat you alive. Let it go and focus on something meaningful. Since I have no way of knowing if you are still in that building ... if you are why don't you get out? Can't get a job anywhere else? The business world is a big scary place and with "your ilk" that ship will go down quickly. You got that part right. Employees like you are a cancer and I'm sure you will find a way to infect every place you go.

If however you are already gone ... good riddance to bad trash.

Darrell? No best ofs is absolutely correct. His best days were when he was not on the air! For someone with such a huge ego ... he sure doesn't have anything in Dallas to back that up with. Did he ever get out of the 1s? Laughable!

As for Jimmy Christopher, I have no problems at all with him or the job he did. I enjoyed his tickers and was sorry to hear he got laid off.

With regards to Eye - what are you consulting now? Oh yes ... nothing worth spending your time on, eh? I guess I understand your bitterness then.

So let me get this straight. Your story is ankarlo suggested it and he and Bennett got intoa big brawl over it?
Well duh. And this is proof that Bennett is a bad GM?

Sounds more like this is proof of 2 things. Darell has a bigger ego than anybody thought (and trust me, I've always thought that thing was F"ING HUGE!!!) and Bennett is smarter than I thought.

Sounds like Darrell wanted to do a 'best of' show. And Bennett told him in no uncertain terms that he must be an idiot to think that. And ankarlo got his manties in a wad because them not wanting him on is a blow to Mt. Ego-more.
It's got to hurt Ankarlo realizing that why they may have loved him at one point (if you ebleieve his website, Petitio's posts, etc) it's OVER...

And as I said before, if youre Bennett, the new PD, whoever, why would you want Ankarlo on? and where would you put him?
Running a best of ankarlo does NOTHING for your current line up. How does playing old Ankarlo help John Wells in afternoon drive. Or whoever the new AM guy is...And if it's new Ankarlo from Phoenix, how does that help any part of teh current line up?

Not to mention where do you put it? Bump O'Reilly? That tom ramsey guy? Didn't they just get Savage back at night? Why bump any of that to put on some has-been that's now gone?

From Ankarlo's website:

Why is he leaving? Darrell will have all the details about his departure from KLIF in his upcoming newsletter. It takes less than a minute to join and you will be able to stay in touch with him and hear/see what he's up to. (If at anytime you no longer wish to receive the letter, you can unsubscribe with the click of your mouse.)

Sounds like he'll have an axe to grind after his last check clears the bank. What a class act. Good luck in Phoenix - I sure hope your new company fully understands what they are getting.

I'd say you are DAMN lucky Mr. Ankarlo that KLIF didn't dump your ass as your ratings continued to sink.
