ANKARLO/Bennett brawl

Listening In said:
CarterTimm - nope. Didn't sit in any of those meetings. Why can't a guy change his mind? How many times in life (much less radio) do you think something isn't a good idea at the time, but makes sense later? So Bennett is human? You want to fault him for that too?
The funny thing, if you look at some of those decisions, it's completely understandable why they changed their mind.

Jimmy? a long time (read big money) news guy incapable of carrying a talk show if need be. Let go in favor of somebody cheaper when cumulus took over.

Taped programming? Anybody notice that the ratings for it are better than the stupidity that was "Big Dick Hunter" and his "Wild ass circus". So let's see, you stop paying a host and a producer, and get better ratings...and this is proof that bennett is a bad GM? I guess he could have been not tried to make more money for the company (and remember that was Susquehanna that did all that not Cumulus) but is that really the smart thing to do?

Cowboys? The ticket was doing fine without play-by-play. But when the KLUV deal fell apart, wouldn't it make sense for KTCK to go after them? After all, they were already running the press conferences, the Jones Show, the Aikman show, etc...

The really stupid thing for Bennett to do would have been to let the Cowboys go to ESPN. That would have put them on the map, something the mavs have yet to really do ratings wise...

I didn't intend for my remarks about Dan "starting the Ticket" to be insulting at all. I like Dan a lot & worked with him for many years when I was the voice of KLIF. I was just trying to set the record straight that he didn't start the station. He inherited it when Susquehanna bought it from the group that bought it from Spence Kendrick, the guy who was the first owner/GM.

So let me get this straight. Your story is ankarlo suggested it and he and Bennett got intoa big brawl over it?
Well duh. And this is proof that Bennett is a bad GM?

Sounds more like this is proof of 2 things. Darell has a bigger ego than anybody thought (and trust me, I've always thought that thing was F"ING HUGE!!!) and Bennett is smarter than I thought.

Sounds like Darrell wanted to do a 'best of' show. And Bennett told him in no uncertain terms that he must be an idiot to think that. And ankarlo got his manties in a wad because them not wanting him on is a blow to Mt. Ego-more.
It's got to hurt Ankarlo realizing that why they may have loved him at one point (if you ebleieve his website, Petitio's posts, etc) it's OVER...

And as I said before, if youre Bennett, the new PD, whoever, why would you want Ankarlo on? and where would you put him?
Running a best of ankarlo does NOTHING for your current line up. How does playing old Ankarlo help John Wells in afternoon drive. Or whoever the new AM guy is...And if it's new Ankarlo from Phoenix, how does that help any part of teh current line up?

Not to mention where do you put it? Bump O'Reilly? That tom ramsey guy? Didn't they just get Savage back at night? Why bump any of that to put on some has-been that's now gone?

Couldn't agree with you more Little1. Just repeating what i heard.

One last thing I'd like to respond to is the Hardline comment. Please note that the Ticket went from start-up to #1 18-34 men in its first year when I was consulting. I am glad the station has continued to be successful and I still enjoy listening to it.

Re: ANKARLO

Sounds like he'll have an axe to grind after his last check clears the bank. What a class act. Good luck in Phoenix - I sure hope your new company fully understands what they are getting.
I'd say you are DAMN lucky Mr. Ankarlo that KLIF didn't dump your ass as your ratings continued to sink.

Couldn't agree more. KTAR is in for it, once he starts showing his TRUE colors. I expect he'll be on good behavior a while.
And yes, the guy never had ratings...but still retained the massive ego. ???

Also on his "never reading these boards", word is he is sending emails out to anyone he thinks is badmouthing him on here, with threats and intimidation.
Now why would he do that if he wasn't reading????

I see nothing has changed at KLIF since leaving almost two years ago. I resigned the day the announcement was made that the station was being sold. Yes, I got my ESOP and got the hell outta there. Say, That reminds me. Rest assured that Bennet will never see the ass end of an employment line. You would not believe the golden parachute the dude is packing. As far as Ankarlo goes, its all about him. No one else. Ankarlo before the station and so on and so on.

Anyone who has been in the radio biz long enough knows that the radio biz is no longer. It's just another business to be bought, sold, and traded. I hate that fact.

Apparently KLIF management has a change of heart. "The Best of Ankarlo" was supposed to run for the rest of the year but apparently Dan Bennett and Ankarlo got into it bigtime. People in the KLIF hallway said it was not a pretty sight.

Reminds me of when the the Former KLIF PD got into it with Randy Kabrich in Philly several years ago.

The big Egos continue to battle at KLIF!

Here's the skinny on the "Brawl". I was listening to Ankarlo about a week ago and they were talking about all the BS on this board. Ankarlo suggested in a joking way to put something like a Brawl happened and then to juice it up. So i posted just to to see just how many of you on here would believe it. Incredible to see the THREAD still growing. :D

Listening in; The way you worded your posts and got your post toasties in an uproar, you come across as Bennett. You won't admit to that and its quite understandable,no self respecting human being would. Now if you are not Bennett you obviously have some close realations with him, based on your defense. The point of the matter. He is not well liked,he (like another braggart who lurks from post to post here) takes credit for the work of others. So the other posts about bennett may well be on the mark. I suggest you look into the matter objectively,or risk appearing to be foolish.

Ah Klifhanger - believe what you will, but, alas, I'm not Bennett. I would guess that he has way better things to do than wonder what kind of tripe you have to say about him or his stations.

Just for fun, why don't you post your successful resume. I'll see if I can contaact Bennett and have him post his ... and we'll compare the two. Interested?

You don't like him. I happen to like him. Just a difference of opinion. Neither of us is wrong, but just because I like him doesn't make me Bennett or make me someone "close" to him. And because you don't like him, I won't call you a bitter, ex-employee. :-*

Gosh, radio people are nasty to one another!!! Glad I discovered this board, boy is it entertaining!!

I loved Ankarlo and will miss listening to him in the moring. Yeah, its sounds like he had an ego, but so what...who on KLIF and The Ticket doesn't?

LISTENING IN: Ok You're not Bennett perhaps. I am not an ex employee of Bennett's either, though I did work at KLIF when it was a radio station 30 years ago. Fairchild owned it then. So you have a close association with Bennett, friend, etc. No problem there. Good friends defend friends.
Bennett held a good image in the eyes of management, but in the eyes of staff,it wasn't unanimous. He played favorites, and left others dangling, then blaming them for the failure. Such is Dan.
