Ankarlo, build a bridge and get over it...

You would think the "mighty one" would have moved on from his sad departure from KLIF but it seems not. Here's another swipe at the "friends he left behind in this months carefully orchestrated newsletter...

I have been listening to your show via the Internet and man you sound like the same old Darrell only bigger! I didn’t think it was possible but you sound more powerful and more at home there. We miss you so much here in Texas but we’re glad we have streaming!! Mike.

I’ve been getting a lot of notes like this one Mike. I was talking to my wife, Laurie, about this the other day and she said she thinks it’s because my new station, KTAR has such talented people doing the news, weather, traffic etc that I sound grounded and ready to rock. I agree with her but add another thought with regard to the “at home” comment: I am in a good environment now. I didn’t realize how toxic my old station was until I got some breathing room. My friends and listeners in DFW (and Tennessee) will always be cherished but some of the people directly involved in the creation of my show in Texas are just plain miserable people. I try not to speak ill of folks but that’s my sincere assessment.

I was listening to your show online and heard you mention AnnMarie Petitto. Is she there with you now? Terry.

AnnMarie flew into town to help with the first week’s shows because my new producer, Rob, couldn’t join me until week two. She and I have had such a great working relationship that she made it so comfortable to start the show in new studios and in a new state. Laurie, AnnMarie and I had way too much fun the whole time she was here.

Sounds like YOU need to get over Ankarlo :D

I thought when he moved away so would his newsletter. I will hit "unsubscribe" tonight and keep taking my pills. It just breaks my heart to do it - he's not good at rejection you know.

See, look at the last bit...

Dude. We need you back here. Farmer’s Branch is getting sued, the aliens are landing and your old station doesn’t know how to handle it. Come back! Charles.

I have offered to help the new morning guy just like I told Mike Gallagher at KSKY I would help him though Mike doesn’t refer to me as an “angry white guy.” They all have my phone number.

Bless him, I can see him now sat watching the "monkey of commonsenseville" on his webcam Wednesdays pining for his chair back :'( Darryl, it's only cos the monkey and DJ are so crap that the listeners are following you. I'm your friend, I can tell you these things.

It's not easy being replaced by lesser talent, in radio or in life. :D

Better get used to it. It's common place in today's enviroment.

"Sounds like YOU need to get over Ankarlo "

cmon, on the way to work is right. Ankarlo's last words at KLIF were kissing everyones ass, but then he leaves and stabs them all in the back. Now he's BS-ing his latest co-workers with wind up their asses.

Funny really.

KARMA....coming your way Aunt Carlos.

If he has done all those things like you claim then you're right but in this business people talk shit all the time and fabricate many things just because they're jealous or don't like them.

Well, did you listen to his last shows in TX? If you did you would know what he said to their faces. Then you can see what he writes in his newsletter as soon as he gets to AZ.
Proof is there.

What's scary is how he manipulates others into believing what he wants them to believe. The made up Q&A helps him gets his points across for those looking for someone to believe in.

Have you met Aunt Carlos? What's to be jealous of?

I know my opinion will probably get shot down, as I'm not in the radio industry..but I'll take my chances.
I listened to Ankarlo from his first day in DFW, and have talked to him in person several times at various KLIF events. He comes off to me as a decent, genuine guy, who actually TOOK THE TIME to talk to me. I've met other radio personalilties, some of whom may or may not be on this board...most treat their fans like they(radio guys) would rather be having root canal surgery. I also read the statements in his newsletter. It sounds to me like he's talking about KLIF/Cumulus...NOT the listeners, which is what I gathered was alleged in a couple of the posts on this thread(please correct me if I'm wrong) From what I've heard and read about Cumulus(particularly on this board), NO ONE is happy working under them. The guy's entitled to his opinion...
I guess I'll leave it at that....I'm blindfolded and against the wall--start shooting.

I've got a good friend who works at Cumulus, and I think the issue there now is that there's haves and have nots...
They wouldn't give Ankarlo diddly, but just sent the whole Ticket staff to the SuperBowl...

But then the Ticket is consistently top 3 25-54, while KLIF has a lot less of a lot older audience...

So can you blame the management? Do you spend a ton marketing a station that's got very little upside (KLIF) , or do you ride your hot hand?

And "Nobody" is happy working there? I wouldn't be so sure. I think it's more like nobody who is happy there is bothering to hang out here...

People here may not like it, but the Ticket is nationally recognized as one of the countries premier sports stations, they're consistently a top biller, and while there 12+ numbers aren't great, they're 25-54 numbers ARE.

And that's where the money is at.

Amen. Ancarlo always complained that management didn't back him, but that's because the Ticket FAR surpassed him in revenue.
They (management)were happy to unload him.
Darrell was a phony, easily fooled listeners, but his co-workers know better.
As far as Cumulus goes, well, he complained about the previous owners too...Ankarlo is ankarlo. If you don't kiss his ass you are poop on his shoe.

I've noticed that about the Ticket...I'm only a young 35, but I must be part of that "older audience", because I've tried to listen to The Ticket, and other than Norm(who I listened to back in his KLIF days, LOVED his show), I can't see what the draw is...and I've given it a chance, believe me......if Howard Stern ever comes back to "over-the-air", they should pick up his show, he'd fit in perfectly, and he's not even a "sports-guy"...

Guess I should be glad I DON'T work in radio...because I apparently have a crummy sense for what sells..I'd be eating green bologna and living under a bridge.... :D

Most morning guys are like that from what i hear. Jody Dean, Ron Chapman, Kid Kraddict, Russ Martin among the worst.

jrc1971 ...are you being paid by ankarlos?? ;D

He hated the Ticket because they made fun of him. Kudos to them.
And if you were showing up to auntie's remotes, of course he was nice to you. That's how he works. Try working with him.

I think the 'brilliance' of the ticket (not the right word, but it'll do for now) is that they've struck a balance between sports and 'schtick'. I listened today, and heard very little non-sports related stuff. It was superbowl wall to wall. And yeah, they may have talked music and commercials, but did anybody check out the DMN or USA today? There was at least as much ink devoted to the ads as sports coverage...

But when it's June and there's little else going on, they can break out the goofy interviews, the stunts, etc, and at least make it 'sound' interesting...

Listened to a lot of ESPN for a while...and there just always ALL sports...even if the sport is boring or they've beaten a subject into the ground...

I realize it's not for everybody. But just like people here bitch about th emusic mix on this station or that, it's the same at the Ticket. They could keep playing the same hits over and over (Cowboys! Rangers! Stars! Mavs!) or they can mix in some deep cuts (Funny bits! tense interviews! prank calls!)...
Sure some people, like you, may not like that mix...but it seems to be owrking for them...

Good points, all....

by the way, I'm not getting paid by anyone but my boss..

I can't believe I'm jumping into this one more time, but here goes.

First let me provide all the necessary disclosures so that KICK can call me Darryl once again.

I listened to Ankarlo regularly here in DFW. He was interesting, fast paced, and I agreed with most of his views on current events. BUT, if you listened regularly you heard how he treated the other staff associated with his show if things did not go the way he wanted. This would cause me to turn him off for awhile, but I kept coming back. If I had worked there I would have quit. But I was not an associate, I was a listener, so I got over it.

Now for my point. I USED to give KICK a bad time about his incessant "Ankarlo bad man" rants. While I still believe KICK needs to find a life, this recent newsletter from Ankarlo leaves me apoplectic.

This is very immature. He obviously continues to feel hurt about not being able to work out a new contract with KLIF. He thought they wouldn't let him go. He just can't bring himself to be happy where he is (supposedly for more $$). So instead he has to reach back and poke people with a stick. If he can't be happy, wouldn't want anyone else to think they were happy.

"...KTAR has such talented people doing the news, weather, traffic etc..." good for you, gasp, does this mean no talent here?

"...I am in a good environment now. I didn’t realize how toxic my old station was..." keep repeating to no affect Darryl

"...some of the people directly involved in the creation of my show in Texas are just plain miserable people." I'm sure they were working with you
"...I try not to speak ill of folks but that’s my sincere assessment." this is my favorite, take your fingers off the keyboard and it won't happen, Oh I guess you do want to!

These are the words of a tortured soul trying to explain to themselves why they weren't happy in DFW and create the image for themselves of why they should be happy now. Problem is, he just aint happy. OK KICK, he's yours do with him what you will.

Yes, I do have a license to make these assessments.

Why are we still talking about Ankarlo?

The guy had a 1-point-something rating. He singlehandedly ran KLIF into the ground by running off the moderate audience, and even the reasonable conservatives.

His show was one notch away from Art Bell material.

I never heard one person say they listened, or bring up his name.

KLIF had better ratings before Ankarlo than with him -- look it up.

Race-baiting radio doesn't work in Dallas. Never will. People just want to be entertained.
